Bill opened a package of crackers and was quickly surrounded by about 20 monkeys, one which actually jumped up on his chest. He knocked it off and made them get back. He broke off a large branch with leaves for each of us so we could keep them at bay if we felt threatened. Several times a mob of them gathered around us and I felt very threatened and waved my branch back and forth so they moved away from me. Bill kept feeding them so several more actually jumped on him and he had to push them back with his stick a few times. The male monkeys got very aggressive when Bill opened the crackers.

The females seemed to keep their distance, especially the ones with babies but the males were scary – and we found out they hissed, growled, snarled and would jump on us if we had food in our hands. When Bill tried to get me to take the crackers to feed them I told him, “No way.” If Bill threw crackers to the females or the babies the males hissed and snarled at them and chased them away, taking the food themselves. It was impossible to feed the females or babies because the males wouldn't let them have any of the crackers.

I did not feed any of the monkeys or even hold the food because I did not want the monkeys jumping on me forming a mob around me.
