I think most people do think of fairies or gnomes living under or in the stems of the large mushrooms. Silly? Maybe, but definitely fun to imagine like a child sometimes.

We occassionally get a mushroom in our yard but this year we have the largest mushrooms growing all over my lawn. Seems all our extra rain has been good for those. It is silly but when I see large mushrooms I always think of fairies and mystical little creatures. However, in reality wild mushroms can kill rabbits and as I have a rabbit, the mushrooms have to go! TFL
