Nope - that's actually the butterfly sitting on her finger. This is the first time they'd had one that absolutely refused to leave. She sat it on a flower for a while, and when she came back in, it flew onto her back and came back in with her!
Unbeliveable! LOve this story. Amazing how children just have that thing about them that instictively instills trust in animals and all creatures. Perfect layout and a lovely memory for her to look back on. She could be the next Dr. Dolittle!
This hand-raised butterfly would NOT leave my DGD. Even after trying to shake it off outside when she came in to get her bookbag to leave for school, there it was, hanging onto her back! They finally put it back in the butterfly house and released it that evening. Each year she raises many butterflies from tiny caterpillars to release, supplying them with parsley from the neighbor's garden. It's been a marvelous learning experience for her.
