Journaling: After Jackson Square, we headed over toward the Mississippi River. Along the way, we saw the Civil War cannon at Washington Artillery Park which honors the National Guard. Tom found a couple of new friends. Dan, Dan, the Shoeshine Man whipped out a bottle of unknown substance and started cleaning his shoes and rubbed them off with his shirt. While cleaning his shoes, a man came by and said to Tom, “Mr. President. It is nice to have you back.” We had to wait for a train to pass before we continue to the Moon Walk, named after Mayor Maurice “Moon” Landrieu. The Moon Walk is a promenade constructed along the riverfront of the Mighty Mississippi. We saw the historically named Natchez go by. Steamboats first arrived in the early 19th century and from 1830 to 1860 they turned New Orleans into the second largest port in the country.

The street people were a hoot and we have laughed about it ever since. TFL!
