Journaling Font: Not My Mom's Pen by Kim Liddiard Journaling reads: I suppose it is inevitable, in a country whose Catholic identity began more than a thousand years before written American history, to find unfamiliar saints venerated in unexpected places. When we came across this statue outside a florist shop in Asiago, I assumed it was just another lovely example of the Italian affection for art. It seems no matter where you are, the locals will proudly direct you to a “not to be missed” collection of some kind. Odds are, it won't be in your guide book. Odds are, it's worth going.
In retrospect, the habit should have been a clue. This particular statue also represents another of Italy's great cultural traditions: Catholicism. After all, Church history and Italian history really couldn't be any more intimately intertwined. It makes perfect sense that a community would produce a saint (or two!) at some point-- and that they would communicate that connection with art.
Variations of the name Giovanna are common on my family tree. I wonder, was this Baroque nun the original inspiration?
