The gray metal cabinet? Do you mean the flat files under my work area? Those came from my husbands office. When they moved last summer, they didn't want to move them so they said anyone could take them. So - He brought them home for me!
I "borrowed" that idea from Becky Higgins, I believe. I saw it in a scrap magazine years ago. The only albums it doesn't work so well on are the ones with the metal binder label things on the spine. I still do it this way, even on those that have a pre-made space for a label.
Thank you! That was my number 2 goal when I reorganized this room. #1 goal was to have everything accessible to where I would not have to lift anything heavy.
The albums with tags on spines are either complete or in progress. A general break down would be this: Done albums include 2002-2005, 2011, 2012, Disney, 2 beach albums, 2 Puerto Rico albums, 1 Texas trip album, 1 college album, Christmas album covering 2004-2012, plus 10 books that are my bonus sons but not pictured here (they are in his room). The in Progress albums are 2 albums for our wedding, my childhood books, my husbands childhood book, Clowns of America book, San Francisco Trip, California Trip, the 1990's book, Week in the life fall 2013, Christmas book for 2013-2019, and albums for 2007-2010 and 2013. I don't scrap in chronological order, so I always have a variety of books going at any given time.
They are scandia (I think thats what they are called). The container store used to carry the full line of them but I think they only carry buts and pieces now. I think Ikea carries something similar...
Thank you for your comments. Yes, alot of time went into this most recent organizational project (the addition of the flat files and putting all of my embellishments into 3-ring binders.) The embellishments project took 2 full weekends plus evenings for a week to get everything sorted and put into the plastic pages. I've gotten to use the system a couple of times now and I can honestly say that this project was worth every minute it took to do. And it makes putting things away easier too because everything has a place.
You have such an amazing space. So beautifully organized! Thank you so much for all of the inspiration!! I've made several notes on what I want to "copy" from you. Thank you!
I also started scrapbooking in 1998 and your supplies are very similar to my stash -- I love your organization and how neat and attractive it looks. Good job.
:o) Thanks! All of those little containers with the pastel colored things in them are flowers that I created and cut out with my craft robo pro. I don't buy any flowers anymore because I can make my own. I love tiny embellishments for cards!
Thanks! This is my third year doing it but I only used the actual kits on the first 2 years. This years I changed it up and am using 2 creative memories pic-folio albums and one of their power palette sets. For our 2014 book, I made my own kit from scrapbook supplies I already had. The kits in this drawer are being used for some travel albums plus mine and my husbands childhood books.
The top row is paper for cards (the rainbow cubby). The middle cubbies are paper pads that have smaller prints on them which are great for cards. The middle row is smaller sheets of rainbow colors that I use for punching shapes or making other card embellishments from. The middle cubbies on that row are Creative memories stacks and smaller paper pads. the bottom row is a mixture of smaller papers and things for card making or embellishment making.
Your room is great! I would love to work with you designing and organizing scraprooms for people! My husband bought a flatfile almost like yours from an architect who retired. I might have to steal it from him for my scraproom! Thanks for sharing your pictures and giving me some more organizational ideas. Happy Scrapping!
Thank you for your nice comments! No, I am not on any kind of design teams what so ever. I would LOVE to have a job designing scraprooms for people! I started scrapping in 1998 but didn't really have a "dedicated space" til 2008. Since then, I have tried many ways of organizing (in containers, in baskets, in boxes, open on the shelves, etc) and I finally realized that I am a "must see it or I forget I have it" kind of person but I hate having it all sitting out open on the shelves. Drawers where I could lay it all out were always my dream and that dream came true in July when my husbands company moved and didn't want to take those flat files with them. So my husband grabbed them for me! (Just like he did with the shelves when they moved in 2005!). I never pass up free furniture if I can put it to good use!! I am, by nature, an organizer. Everything must be organized and in it's place or I fuss with it til it is! My free time over the last 5 years? lol! I work full time (Marketing Manager) and most of my free time is spent with my husband and our puppy. As for the albums, if they have tags on them, they are complete or in progress. No tags means that I just picked up "extras" for upcoming projects. The bottom shelf of albums are ones I need to break apart, out of their current magnetic albums. I still have some organization to do, like my box of scraps and I will be adding pictures of that once it is done (it's in progress). Eventually I plan to do blog posts about all of this but I want to finish it all first. Oh, and the bulletin board needs to be moved up a bit. It is hid behind the boxes on the table because the table used to be much lower than it is now. I should also tell you that I never buy anything unless it is on sale or I have a coupon. I only buy things I know I will use and I don't keep up with the latest trends. So what you see here is what I have accumulated since 1998 and it certainly was not done all at once.
I am like in awhhhhhhhhhh, looking at every one of these pic's takes my breath away. Seriously! I totally want to be YOU when I grown up! Everything you did is a work of art, my goodness. I don't know if you do already, but I surely hope you are on some design team for scrap rooms! Also, what did you do in your spare time during the last 5 years. It had to be so time consuming! My brain hurts just looking at each shot.
Way to go! You are the head of the class! A+++++++++++++++++++++++
