For Father's Day this year my husband and I hopped on a train and chose to get off at a random stop w/out researching what was there. A tricky proposition here in Germany on a Sunday we might have gotten off to find nothing open! As luck would have it our stop was a great little town. First we headed to a café for coffee and a Belgian waffle covered in bananas, chocolate sauce and ice cream YUM! Then we wandered around and climbed a hill to an old fortress/castle, still need to research it to learn it's history. Sat in it's courtyard and I enjoyed another coffee while the hubs had a beer. Wandered back down to the town center and found a charming little restaurant with a view of the church and clock tower. We shared an asparagus cream soup and gyros salad. Then headed to the local brewery museum. They gave us a short print out in English to describe some of what we would see but otherwise everything else was in German. It was really neat to see all the brewing equipment from pre-electricity times to modern. Same for all the advertising, hundreds of old beer caps, bottles, mugs etc. Then at the end you were given a small glass of beer, this particular kind is only brewed at the museum and not for sale anywhere else besides the adjoining bar.
