I love that the colors you have are not white like typical rooms I see. I have lots of primitive warm country colors but could never find storage items that work in darker colors. So my craft space has white storage vs the rest of my house. This feels very homey!
Mminmin. Thanks for your kind words. I hope you're wanting info on the center island/desk so will respond to that. I actually found one of the island pieces on Craigslist and we built the other (don't recommend that because we're not carpenters and it was not a good experience). However, the piece we found was bright red and two coats of black paint fixed that. I love to visit the bigger thrift stores because they have portable kitchen islands from time to time. The white top is a cutting mat I found online but the top of any piece could be painted and then a Tim Holtz platform used instead now. I hope that helps, let me know if you need more.
Oh my gosh! My mom had that same sewing machine when I was little!
I love your room. Can you give me info on your desk please.
Right now I'm using an old computer desk ... which doesn't work well.
Love, love, love your room! I guess my paper obsession isn't too bad, you have about twice what I have! Also, have to comment on your sewing machine - isn't it the best? My mom has one we all learned on, over the years we have bought 8 more for all the women in our family!
Awesome work space. I wish I could be so fortunate to have that kind of space in my house. My scrap room looks like a cave with lights. Beautiful ideas, and I am going to paint, revamp all my supplies also as after awhile YIKES.....where is it
Great room! I also tend to overstock because the nearest craft store is 10 miles away. I went to the scrapbook convention this year and took a donation of odd papers, stickers, etc.
I love this view of your studio. I've seen bits of it in the Scrapbooking Organization class, but this view really shows the whole space. I noticed that when you sit on the stools to work, you are looking at your supplies. I bet that helps with using what you have! I set mine up so that my supplies are behind me, just a chair swivel away, but also out of sight. Something to think about!
Where I get it all done. I love this place and the way I feel when working here. It's taken many years of trial and error to get it to be like this.
The bins were natural in color (came from WalMart) so I took out the bottom cardboard insert and dyed them in a bucket filled with water and Walnut Ink Crystals added.
The suitcases store our family heirlooms and histories.
I painted the paper bins with black spray paint made to cover plastic.
There is a lot of stuff in here which can be overwhelming sometimes with too many choices. It takes me at least an hour to get to and from the store to purchase or pick up supplies so I'm ultra sensitive and protective about gas and time. I opt to "stock up" which saves time, gas money and the frustration of having to put a project aside until I can get to the store or order online. But the stash doesn't conserve space. We're in the the thinking stages of downsizing so I'm going through the mental processes of minimizing my studio for when we actually do. I've never worked backwards before so this is a fun challenge. One thing I love about this space is there's a place for everything and everything is in it's place. Not every bin is filled up, but there are places so supplies and tools don't end up in piles all over the place. Not everyone can do that, I understand. And, I've learned from being a scrapbooker for over 40 years that less can be more--but for now I'm grateful to have what I want and need to work with at my fingertips.
Tip: The island is made up of two moveable kitchen islands pushed together with the self-cutting mat ordered to fit the top. The organization and decor in this studio is highlighted in Scrapbook.com's free Get Organized Class.
The studio was also featured in the August 2014 issue of Where Women Create magazine.
