This lo is about a tradition we keep: the First Foot. It comes from the Isle of Man and it's explained on the journaling that reads:
Quaaltagh
The Isle of Man name for
the 1st Foot, or the 1st person to enter
a house on New Year’s Day.
The 1st Foot is very important because
he influences the fortune of the home
for the coming year. If he’s an unlucky or
ill-favoured person the family will suffer
the consequences for the next 12 months.
It is wise, therefore, to arrange for the 1st Foot
to be a respectable person. He should bring,
as gifts, a coin, a slice of bread, a lump of
coal, and a dram of spirits. This will
ensure prosperity, food, warmth, and
good cheer during the
New Year.

Every year, on Jan. 1st., our friend Alex acts as our First Foot.
