Monday, February 16th, 2015 – After a train ride and a tram ride this morning we were at the old Adelaide Gaol. I asked how it was pronounced and the woman at the desk told us it was pronounced as we would pronounce “jail” only she said it with a bit of an Australian accent.

The gaol was built in the 1800's and many of the early cells and areas have been preserved. Over the years there were several additions.

The picture on the right was taken in front of the gaol. When prisoners were brought to be confined a bell was rung and a small opening was available for communication.

The lower left photo is the door from inside the gaol.
