This is the story of a girl who always wanted a dog, or a pet really of any kind to play with as a child, that still doesn’t have one as an adult. She had a heap of goldfish and even a Budgerigar once, and I shouldn’t forget to mention Shelly the tortoise, who my mother nearly hit with the car and brought home one day..... but never the dog she really wanted while all
the other girls wanted or had horses.
I was not allowed one as a child because Dad hated animals which according to my Grandmother stemmed from an incident with a chicken on a farm in Italy when he was young. My Mum had dogs when she was little and Grandpa had racing greyhounds until the day he
died so I don’t think it was her that stopped us kids from having a dog.
I don’t have a dog now because hubby doesn’t want one ruining his garden. I have a baby and apparently that should take the place and more of a furry pet. Before we had a baby I had asked for every animal under the sun that would happily fit in our yard - from goats, to rabbits and cats, and of course dogs of all sizes, I wasn’t picky about breeds and such but we now have birds as a “compromise”
But I still, some day,
hope to experience... puppy love
