Two mistakes are in the journaling above but have been corrected - January is misspelled and grated should be graded.

Wednesday, January 29th, 2014 – What a nice day in Bora Bora – it was as beautiful as I remembered it to be!

It's a small island and we toured it pretty thoroughly in 2010 so this time we just went back to the pearl farm tour. The pearl farm furnishes an open vehicle with a straw top and offers a ride to the pearl farm from the dock. When we got off the ship we joined Barry, Sue and Jan and took advantage of the free transportation.

The pearl farm has demonstrations on how pearls are cultivated and pulled from the water. They also demonstrate how the oysters are opened to retrieve the pearl and then implanted with a grain of sand so the creature can make another pear without causing harm to the animal inside during the process.

We also sat through the lecture again on how pearls are rated and graded. And of course – they sell pearl jewelry. The pearl farm showroom is very elegant with some of the most beautiful and expensive pearl jewelry I've ever seen! I already had my pearl necklace which Bill bought for me in the last port (Tahiti) but it was nice to learn a lot more information about pearls on the tour.

Another ship was docked next to us and my jaw dropped when one of their crew members paid $35,000 for a string of pearls for his wife. Some of the strings of pearls were priced as high as $65,000!

I always thought I wanted a full string of Tahitian pearls but now, I am very happy and content – in fact I'm thrilled with my necklace pendant with the two perfect pearls on it! And I love that my Tahitian pearls actually came from Tahiti!

There are some wooden statues next to the pearl factory where we took a lot of pictures in 2010. We couldn't resist posting by the same statues for more pictures!
