How strange that the shops didn't open earlier - especially with a cruise ship in port. Very odd. How nice of the resort receptionist to let you use the Internet.
How fun you had the same experience we did on the French island Guadaloupe. The whole freakin' island was closed. Not sure why they would close when I cruise ship docks. They lose a lot of money. You sure had a beautiful day there. the sky is a gorgeous blue with hardly a cloud.
It was almost noon and nothing in town was open yet other than 1 or 2 tiny souvenir shops so we walked to one of the small resorts to see if we could get on the internet. The woman at the desk at the resort told us the internet was private and she could not give us the password.
Bill told her that was okay, we'd just like to sit in the air conditioning for a few minutes and cool off. We told her the resort was beautiful and then Bill reached in his pocket and pulled our 4 or 5 little jars of jelly from the ship (we were going to make sandwiches with them for a picnic lunch). He gave her the jelly and thanked her for letting us sit and cool off. As he was walking away she called him back and slipped him a piece of paper with the password for us. We spent about an hour on the internet checking Facebook and email and then walked a few blocks back to the little town.
By then it was 1:30 (and everything had signs that they open at 12:00?) One of the shop keepers told us they worked on island time so it could be 2:00 or later before most of the shops opened so we decided just to go back to the ship and call it a day. The shuttle buses were going back to the ship, one after another - completely full, so apparently most of the other passengers also got tired of waiting for the places to open and went back to the ship.
A market was set up near the ship so Bill bought me a really cute t-shirt with a turtle on it. It is my new favorite! However, it seems every time he buys me a new t-shirt (nearly every port), it is my new favorite!
Thursday, March 27th, 2014 – Last sea day before South Africa tomorrow. We came in second place in the early afternoon trivia which is progressive. Then the tallies were totaled for the entire cruise segment (since Hong Kong) and we also came in 2nd overall out of 20-22 teams. I'd love to take credit for our placement but truth is, we have one woman, Rusetta from New Jersey who is a retired children's librarian and she knows everything! I think the team only keeps me around because they don't want to loose Bill - he's pretty good in history and geography.
