Sunday, April 13th, 2014 – Today when we were playing trivia I looked out the window and saw a large black triangular thing in the ocean – the top point of the triangle was steady above the water – and it appeared to be moving in a circle! I watched it for several minutes thinking it was probably a bird but it didn't act like a bird and as it came closer to the ship I could tell that it definitely wasn't a bird - it was swimming, not floating in the ocean!

My next thought was that it was a dolphin but it wasn't breaching or behaving like a dolphin – what looked exactly like a dorsal fin was holding steady as it swam in a circle.

It had to be a shark! I pointed it out to Bill who confirmed that it was definitely a shark! And it was right outside my window about 15 yards from the ship! As we watched it get closer we could make out the shape of the shark under the water and it was huge!

Other people noticed that Bill and I were looking at something interesting and quit playing trivia to come see what we were looking at. Gene Young, our Cruise Director stopped announcing trivia clues and gave us a puzzled look and I yelled to him, “We're watching a shark!”

As much as we have cruised we have never seen a shark in the ocean from a ship before. Everyone was excited and agreed that it was the first time any of them had ever seen a shark from a ship. Gene wanted to see it, as he had never seen a shark from a ship either but before he could walk across the room, the show was over, the shark was gone.

The day continued to get even better – we won first place in the evening trivia! I contributed very little but together as a team – we won!
