Sunday, July 27th, 2014 – We woke up in this morning to find our ship docked in Ijmuiden, Holland which is the port city for Amsterdam.

We took a bus to the train station in Ijmuiden and then took the train to Amsterdam. I had a wonderful piece of lemon pound cake while Bill worked on-line to find a hotel for us. We had emailed our new friends, Patrick and Tamara (they were in the cabin across from us when we went around Norway) and told them we would be in the area for several days and wanted to take them to dinner one night while we were in port.

Just as Bill found a hotel that sounded nice and was ready to book it a message popped up on my computer for me which was from Patrick. He said not to make reservations anywhere – he and Tamara would pick us up and take them to their house. They wanted us to stay in their guest room and they also wanted to take us around to see the sights. Included in the invitation, at their insistence, was the offer of a traditional Dutch dinner Saturday night.

We took the train back to Ijmuiden and were happy to find them waiting at the station for us. If we had known it would work out this way, we would have just stayed in Ijmuiden and avoided a bus and a train each way!

They took us to Volendam, an adorable little town right by the water. It was one of the cutest little places I've ever seen! Very touristy but that is okay with me! We stopped in a place that was much like a pub and had fish & chips along with fried calamari and shrimp. We took a lot of photos of this picturesque town with all the pretty gardens and flowerboxes.
