I love those windmills! I had no idea that they were small factories - guess I never thought about it. I read the article - looks like there is quite a bit there to do and it is all free.
Now that is what I think of when I think of Holland. I knew there was shops in the bottom but I thought they were flour mills. Never knew there were saw mills. Your photos of the mills are really good. Super brochure you scanned. It has wonderful photography but also the price. Cool!
The next place Patrick and Tamara took us was Zaandam – to a place that had 5 or 6 old windmills from the 1600's – some still operating. I did not know that there were small factories which were located in the building at the base of each windmill. We saw a small saw mill which was still operating and being powered by the traditional Dutch windmill above it.
There were also a few animals, and a big wooden shoe to climb into for pictures.
