Monday, July 28th, 2014 – Such a rainy day today! Patrick and Tamara's home is in Haarland which is not very far from Amsterdam. Patrick had to go into work this morning so we spent some time at home with Tamara. After breakfast, Tamara took us to visit Patrick at work. He and another man own a small computer company which has really been doing well! We were very impressed to see his office and all the space he has. The have really built up a successful business and we can tell that Patrick really enjoys it!

After leaving Patrick's office we took Tamara out to lunch and grocery shopping. She wanted to prepare something special for us tonight for dinner so we agreed to it but only if it was understood that we were buying all the food and groceries.

I told Tamara I wanted to buy some Droste chocolates – that is such a well-known Dutch company with a reputation for having the best chocolate and I wanted to try some. Of course, I completely forgot when we were at the store.

When Patrick got home we had a traditional Dutch meal. A large rectangular electric grill was placed on the center of the table. Tamara had sliced a baguette, ground beef patties were cut in pieces and a plate of beef and a plate of horse were set on the table. Another bowl held marinated chicken. More bowls held tomato, mushrooms, and bell pepper slices.

We each chose an assortment of meats and vegetables and placed them on the grill along with pieces of bread which we had spread liberally with garlic butter.

Every bite was wonderful (okay, we will never be fans of eating horse but I did try a bite). It was a lot of fun to grill our own meat and vegetables and the conversation around the table was perfect. Such an perfect evening!
