The Attwater's Prairie Chickens are a ground-dwelling grouse that lives on the coastal prairie. There are less than 300 of them remaining, most of which are born in captive breeding. When its mating season the males puff up their yellow air sacs and emit a booming sound across the sea of prairie grasses. To hear them you have to be there at dawn or dusk. This is a photo of a photo at the refuge headquarters.
