These are our two furbabies, Gabriella and Lucifur. Both are rescue kitties from the streets of East LA when they were kittens. Luci was 6 weeks old and Gabi 4 weeks. Like children, they are as different as night and day, though their namesakes and personalities seem to be reversed!

Luci came to me nearly 12 years ago. A friend at work had found her in a box at a convenience store. I took her home and my DH (who was my boyfriend of a year at the time) named her Lucifur for obvious reasons, but he suggested Luci for short, which was a tribute to my grandmother who passed away a short time later. She is our sweetheart, our love bug, our Dark Angel. She's affectionate, polite, cuddly and fastidious about cleanliness. A few years after we had had her, we started joking about getting an all white cat and naming it 'Angel' or 'Jehova' (my sister's suggestion) or after another Archangel.

Enter Gabriella. Right before we found out we were pregnant with our DS, someone at DH's work found a tiny, dirty kitten walking down the sidewalk of a very busy street. Once we cleaned her up we found that she was pure white with blue eyes. And it only took a couple passes with the vacuum (Luci disappeared, Gabi decidedly did not) to realize she was stone deaf... not that she notices. Gabi is our middle child, our monster, our White Devil. She's bossy, opinionated, skittish and our trouble-maker. She's the reason we don't have blinds on one side of the living room window; a constant pile of litter outside the litter box and ratty edges on all our couch arms. She is also our personal alarm clock, and she does NOT have a snooze button!

That being said, both our girls have been very patient and tolerant to the grabby hands and in-your-face curiosity of both our kids. Even Gabi endures our DD's 'petting' and only objects vocally.... loudly. Yet neither of our girls ever raises a paw or even hisses.

Now to the page. We had high hopes that Gabi would be a little companion for Luci, but it became apparent within a few months that that would not be the case. Luci tolerated Gabi as a kitten, but when she became an adolescent, things changed. And when our son arrived, she took her role as middle child to heart. Gabi is constantly trying to 'play' with Luci. She hides and then ambushes Luci or pounces on her or starts an all-out slap fight. She antagonizes her big sissifur and sometimes we have to referee. It never gets violent or dangerous - Luci usually hisses, slaps and then walks away. Its always entertaining to watch!

This particular battle was, as usual, instigated by the White Devil and was so funny, I got it on video. (Its on my FB feed.) Gabi is laying in her 'spot' on the cat tower and Luci was just below her in her 'spot' on the back of the couch. Gabi would barely run her paw along Luci's back and Luci would turn and hiss at her. Very "I'm not touching you" "yes you are" sibling rivalry. This must have gone on for upwards of 10 minutes before Luci finally swung at Gabi and the inevitable slap-fight ensued. Soooo darn funny! Ironically, this felt very much like the current political debating at the time (it was Columbus Day, a few weeks before the Presidential election).

Anyway, as soon as I saw my song inspiration for the February Music Challenge, Love Me Again by John Newman, I knew I was doing this page. It was just a matter of how it would come together. In the song, the lines "is that what devils do?" and "I shook the Angel in you" were my inspiration for several reasons, mostly because our cats are named after two Archangels, one that 'fell' to the devil and that their personalities reflect the reverse of this as well as our nicknames White Devil and Dark Angel for them. Also because tempting trouble is, in fact what devils do and yes, Gabi does shake the angel in Luci. So I tried to recreate the Angel/Devil theme on the page and I'm super happy with how it turned out!

This was supposed to be a February entry, but I missed the deadline because I just could not get this page to come together. I finally finished last night (with Gabi's 'help') and am glad I did! This is for the March Challenges: Cricut, Scrap Your Pet, Not to be Squared, Girls Only and Hoarders. Carts used: Clouds - Small Talk Frames and Tags; Cats - Meow; Angel Wings - Gypsy Wanderings; flame - Campout (I cut off the wood). I hand-drew the yin-yang pieces and hand-cut the tail and horns on the white cat. And my fingers are still red from inking the red on the 'evil' letters! LOL
I just realized I might not be able to use this for Not to be Squared because I did include that rectangle behind the photo...

Anyway, TFL!
