I'm deeply sorry about your friend's heartbreaking loss. What a thoughtful, poignant way to help bring some much needed cheer and beauty into her life during this very difficult time. <3
I made this shabby chic broach for a friend who recently lost her mother. I wanted to make a piece that would reflect spring and new life that was filled with love so I used some of my most prized pieces that have been in my crafty hoard vault and been treasured gifts from crafty friends.
I started with a paper base and layered large (4.5") and 4 medium (3.5") crocheted doilies. I also used some gorgeous pearl and sequined wedding appliques to flank each side and dangle from the bottom.
For the centerpiece, I hand fussy cut a bird from the K & Company Floral Collection called Bird on Pink, coating the eyes and beak with Glossy Accents for lifelike shine.
Lastly I went all out with the embellishing, using pearl and rhinestone chain handmade flowers, layering on crocheted lavender flowers, backed with pink and silver eyelash trim, adding gem sticker flower centers on tiny floral appliques, and gorgeous flowers and a butterfly from Prima's floral embellishment collection. Tip: to make identical paper flowers look different, tear off the outer petals of one flower to make it into a bud!
I was a little concerned that with this chock full of mixed materials, this project would look a jumble, but I think with the spring theme and the tight color palette, it came out looking sweet and fresh. I hope it brightens my friend's day when she receives it!
