My most recent flock of hens are all named after First Ladies. This is Dolley Madison, checking out the flash feature on my i-Phone. She's practically in my lap she's so curious about it.
I usually turn the girls out in the late afternoon or early evening so they can forage for bugs and get out and experience life in the outdoors. But because I live in the land of coyotes, hawks, and bobcats, I sit on the porch and keep an eye on them the entire time - which can often be 2 or 3 hours. Sometimes that gets a bit tedious, but when a moment like this one happens, I realize that there really isn't anywhere I'd rather be than enjoying my country life in my backyard, surrounded by nature and thinking about how blessed I am to get to live the life I always imagined.
