Neither of my daughters has children, but they both have cats, so I have to make do with what they give me.

I actually have FIVE grand kitties. Two of them are staying with me this summer while their mom is away at summer camp directing a ropes course program for the YMCA of Tulsa.

Storm - the one in the front - is very social. She was in my business almost from the first minute she arrived, checking out all the things that were on my scrap desk, in my scrap room, on my scrap shelves, in my scrap drawers.

Santana, the black long hair, is much more shy and reclusive. He's been here almost a week, and just last night finally ventured out far enough into the room and stayed to visit long enough for me to get a photograph. He's pretty chill, just shy, and it took him a while to figure out that Grandma's scrap room is a safe space for a black cat to be.

They're going to have to live in my scrap room for the summer. I have leather furniture and they have nice long claws and know how to use them. Amy brought not one, not two, but three scratching posts for them to hone their nails on, and they're both pretty active at it. Not that they need to actually USE them for anything, but you never know. Storm has already taken a couple of my ink sponges hostage and she's shredded a couple of ribbon leftovers. I'm pretty confident that there are NO mice in this room.

I think both of them like living here. There are squirrels and birds right out the window - and they're pretty focused about them. I've got a couple of photos of each of them with tails twitching, looking out the window. In fact, that's where both of them are right now - on the tower, heads facing the window, watching a crow who obviously knows they're there and could not care less.

It's been a long time since I've had cats around. I kind of like their peaceful natures. They're not needy like a dog, but they're pretty nice as companions go.
