This is amazing! Please print this story you told us and tape it to the back of the page or tuck it under the photo. What a wonderful glimpse into your childhood.
Beautifully done, especially love work on the carousel. This photo was meant to end up in your manila envelope. I absolutely love what you wrote here about our prayers being answered, but not always in the time frame or the way we think they should be answered, and that we are really the ink, so true!
This is absolutely gorgeous! So many little details and the mixed media is great! I love that carousel die-cut and what you did with it! Love the floral work. Life is funny the way things turned out.
What a beautiful layout! Love the wrinkled paper, masking, cute carousel and floral arrangement! Thank you for sharing the story. I always wanted horses myself but never had any.
My mom has been cleaning out photographs. She's put them into big manila envelopes and has been handing them out to everyone in the family. I don't know what kind of criteria she used to sort the photos, but it appears to be totally random. Just because an envelope has your name on it, it doesn't mean that it's only your photographs. Mine has photos of me, my brother, my cousins, my daughters, and people I don't even know.
Anyway - I spilled out the contents of the envelope and out came this little treasure. That's me for sure. Taken in California for sure. Age ... maybe four, so 1960 - 61. Beyond that, it's a mystery. Mom thinks it MIGHT be Knottsberry Farm but she doesn't remember and she didn't write anything on the back but my first and last name (like she'd forget that, right?)
Anyway - it occurred to me that for as far back as I can remember, I've loved horses. I begged my parents for a horse from the time I could talk. I wrote letters to Santa, to the Easter Bunny, prayed every night. If God, Santa, the Easter Bunny, or my parents would get me a horse, I would never ask for anything else ever again.
My parents were city folks. I'm an anomaly in my family - nobody else lives in the country. Nobody else in my family ever wanted to. But for me, I can't imagine living anywhere else, or wanting any other life. And when I imagined that life, it always had horses. I didn't know how I would ever get there, but God has a way of answering our prayers. Sometimes it takes a lot longer than we'd like, and we don't always get it answered quite the way we imagined it.
So maybe I'm not actually the author of my life's story. Maybe I'm just the ink... but the reading is pretty good from where I sit. Because I'm almost always sitting on the back of a good horse.

I did a lift of Shonda's Playtime. When I saw that Fabscraps carousel, I thought it would be perfect to do a layout with the carousel in Florence. I changed my mind when this photo fell out of my manila envelope. ;-)
Here's Shonda's project so you can see what inspired ME. I hope that I've inspired YOU.
