Honeycomb Christmas

In 2012, when Tim took his 12 tags of Christmas in a whole new direction, I kind of lost my interest in doing them. I followed them sporadically, but I really loved the Christmas themed ones, so I continued to do those, taking inspiration from various other sites and artists. I have a big garland that I hang them on, and because I add tags to it every year, it's gotten huge. I think there's like 100 tags on it at this point.

But I still hanker to "finish" the Tim Holtz tags. Now that he's officially retired them, there's a definite limit to the total and I want to go back and do the ones from the last five years.

So, there's my goal and I have a list to check off. Some of them are already done, so I don't actually have to complete all 60 of them, and I'm not totally positive that I'll actually do the 2016 ones because those are combination tags of the previous years, so there's not really any new technique on them ...

Anyway - here's my first (61st?) one. This is the tag from February 2012, the honeycomb paper. Now, I don't actually HAVE honeycomb paper so I had to make some from scratch, which I did.

It wasn't hard, but it WAS time consuming ... I took 17 coffee filters, colored them with peeled paint stain (reinker + water), dried them, ironed them, and cut them in half. Then I layered them using alternating lines of glue and let that dry overnight. I took the dried stack and put it through my big shot with my Tim Holtz Evergreen die. The fronds dropped away from the honeycomb, but the deeper parts closer to where the trunk would be have a nice, clear honeycomb and I love the way it looks.

The background is my very first foray into the world of Distress Oxides! I'm not a fan - yet. They're a little pastel for my taste, but I like the way they behave with water and I'm sure that as I get more familiar with them, I'll learn to love them as much as everyone else does!

I had some tiny bead garland, and some beaded ribbon (which I cut apart). The little packages were in my stash, as was the nutcracker and star top and snowflakes.

Several of you have asked about seeing my garland, and come Christmas time, I'll be happy to post pictures of it. Right now, it's packed in a box with the seasonal decorations. I may have a photo of it somewhere ... but I'll have to dig around to see if I can find it...
