These photos of my elder daughter are old, the first taken in 1990 and the last in 1998.

She first went to summer camp as an 8 year old, and later as a junior counselor, and finally as a member of my riding staff.

When she got her first "real" job, working at Barnes & Noble, her boss asked her, "where on earth did you learn to work?" She told him, "well, I worked for my mom for a couple of summers. She taught me that since I was going to be at work anyway, I might as well look for something to do because time passes faster when you stay busy, so I do. She taught me to look for work."

I think that's probably a legacy I left with all my riding staff - not just my own kids. I still hear from them on a regular basis thanking me for teaching them how to work. I just thought we were playing with horses.... Never occurred to me that it was WORK.
