My dad - always studying. This was probably taken in the early 60s. The journaling is about how my dad, from a small town, always knew there was so much more in the big world. He studied and worked hard, eventually earning a scholarship to Columbia University. His mother also scrimped and saved her pin money to help him. The world was his oyster - he studied languages and history, and went on to earn his doctorate degree. Over the years, he and my mom struggled (students dont earn much and my mom was still adjusting to living in the US). But they persevered and he never gave up. Eventually he got a job with the government, was later transferred to the Embassy in Japan and flourished. And hes come full circle - hes now a professor at the prestigious Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.
