Giraffe's are such lovely creatures with their big, gentle eyes and tall, lean necks! This giraffe reminds me of my childhood in Africa.
Inspired by Picket Fence's Longneck Family Kit of a giraffe and authentic accessories in 2023, I made this "You Make A Difference" card. Now in June of 2024, Picket Fence re-released this 'Hi Hey Hello Giraffe' stamp separate from the kit! It now has a die due to popular request which I haven't bought yet but plan to purchase soon. I fussy cut twenty of this giraffe, and your fingers start to hurt doing this so that is why I recommend Tim Holtz new recoil spring scissors, the smaller pair. This giraffe stamp is a keeper! I'll use it for many other cards.
It took me a long time to find the right yellow cardstock for this card! The giraffe needed just the right shade, not a lemon yellow but Heffy Doodle cardstock in the shade of 'butterscotch' is what I went with for stamping the giraffe head with 'Amuse Studio' pigment ink in 'french roast' brown. Did you know every giraffe has unique spots, just like our fingerprints are unique?
I searched on Amazon to find a handmade, unique paper to stencil upon. I showed a picture of what I went with, dabbing the 'french roast' onto the edges. I used the stencil that came with the 'Longneck Family Kit' by Picket Fence. Now it is called 'Indian Summer' and it's just perfect for an authentic African feeling. Choose either the regular size or the slimline size stencil. It's up to you what size card and stencil you want to go with.
I used the two glazes that came with the kit, 'Golden Sparkle' and an exclusive Long Neck Family glaze that is a taupe in color. It is called 'Bronze Doorknob' now I believe. Alternative would be "Twinkle Lights' glaze by Picket Fence and 'Coffee Bean' glaze by Picket Fence.
Since Picket Fence just released in June of 24 new glazes, try using 'Brass Doorknob' glaze, it doesn't look like much in the container but applied to the stencil appears as a beautiful bronze metalic shade as it dries! Just perfect. You can see by the picture I uploaded how the golden sparkle glaze looks compared to the Brass Doorknob glaze. My preference is to use a tiny amount of each on a card.
My original size Misti was helpful in repeat stamping the giraffe. I bought a Waffle Flower sticky mat to hold the paper securely in place, it works better than the magnets in my opinion. It's the 6.5 sticky mat that goes with the original size Misti, the game changer stamping platform. I fussy cut the giraffe as there is no die that matches this one. Well, there wasn't when I made it! But there is now! You are in luck!
It doesn't take long to fussy cut the giraffe. Makes me long for my fiskar or the new Tim Holtz spring scissors though!
I used Hobby Lobby the Paperie Shoppe adhesive foam, any brand would work.
Tim Holtz Tonic Studio travel guillotine paper trimmer was what I used to cut the 'timber' shade of spellbinders cardstock for the card.
So many people have asked what type of paper trimmer to get. I find I use both the guilliotine and Fiskar with wire rotary paper trimmer, one does the large cuts on paper with a clean line, the other is good for the small jobs like cutting sentiments with just the right amount of spacing around it.
To cut out the words 'you make a difference' I used my Fiskars paper trimmer, the wire indicator of where to cut works well with cutting sentiment on it.
Finally I assembled the giraffe and sentiment onto the card. I believe the recipients will be thrilled to receive this handmade card! So would any kid/family who has just been to the zoo! Giraffe's are always a favorite with their huge expressive eyes!
The Picket Fence Stamp Scrubber works excellently to wash the giraffe stamp! I really rely on my Stamp Scrubber to clean stamps after use.
Happy Crafting!
