Do you love bees? Honey? Here's a card that can be used for any number of occassions: Thinking of you, Hiking/Outdoors/Flowers and those in Beekeeping or youngsters learning about bees, or anyone who loves nature!
A bee skelp? YES! yay. Aren't they cute?
I keenly discovered the most amazing inspiration on Creative Expressions web page in the UK, using a couple of the Creative Expressions Bee and also the BEE AMAZING stamp set. (No matching die).
The clear stamp set used in my card is from Creative Expressions called CEC1080 Bee. The card that inspired me is a LARGE hexagonal shape so I purchased Sue Wilson 'Noble Collection - Double Stitched Hexagon set of 12 nesting hexagon dies from Amazon. Note it is the Noble Collection, although I've linked to a similar hexagon not the Noble Collection hexagon that I prefer. I used the largest die to cut the background on black cardstock; it was so large I had to run it through my Anna Griffin Empress die cutting machine twice.
Eager to make six matching bee/honey cards I used 'Card Warehouse yellow sorbet' card stock to cut with Tim Holtz guillotine paper trimmer into the eight hexagons in five sizes. The Card Warehouse has large packages of card stock so I wasn't worried of running out. I fetched Ranger's Distress Ink 'Rust Hinge' and inked the edges of each hexagon. This seemed to add a honey like glow to the yellow sorbet card stock. I used a stencil in my stash to make tiny dots on the 2nd biggest hexagon. The card I used as inspiration had little tiny grid lines on the 2nd largest hexagon, but that stamp wasn't included with this set, nor was a couple of bees. Hero Arts to the rescue, I found two bee stamps in my stash and quickly stamped them onto the smallest hexagons. The clear stamps are called Hero Arts Polyclear stmps themed clear stamp set 4"x6". There is a picture to reference, I used the bee and honeycomb. Any tiny flower you have in your stash could also be used since beens gather pollen from flowers to make honey. The 2nd Hero Arts stamps are called "Hero Florals' floral designs for cardmaking, 3"x4" I liked the sideways flying bee stamp from this set and used it on six of the smallest hexagons.
I used the three bees, the 'Bee' word, the 'skelp', and the words 'Mother Nature' from Creative Expressions clear stamp set designed by Sam Poole.
So to summarize, I CUT the hexagons f rom Sue Wilson dies first yesterday afternoon. Today I STAMPED using my trusti Misti that I wouldn't do without for anything, complete with the Waffle Flower sticky mat in the original Misti size. I had to dampen it with water in the bottom corner as it needed to restore it's stickiness and I was able to stamp enough hexagons for six bee themed cards. It's working great!
Next I darkened the edges of each 'yellow sorbet' cardstock hexagon with Ranger Distress Ink called 'Rusty Hinge'. I first tried to use Picket Fence Paper Pouncers then used Altenew 'Mini Blending Brush set'.
Finally I was ready to assemble the card. I used different foam tape to have different depths, but just one could be used. I liked the dimension of the foam tape, use whatever adhesive you have. Gina K Designs White 3/8 " x 1/16" x 12 feet foam tape, a roll of Scotch foam tape from amazon, Simon Says stamp double sided adhesive which was highly sticky but didn't roll out easily, and the Paperie Shoppe Foam Adhesive Dots from Hobby Lobby are what completed my handmade card. I like the dots as for me they are easy to work with.
Thank you for taking the time to be inspired by the bee themed card. Isn't it incredible? There is something so quaint and authentic about the old fashioned skelp, which is what bee hives use to look like. Many generations of extended family have done beekeeping and I'm tickled to make this card for them. You can do just one if you choose to.
Happy cardmaking!
Thanks for spreading positivity!
