I am enchanted by this page...and by your story! Now I want to read it myself!! So very cool that you scrapped a page about Anne's fave fairy tale! The layering inside the center cut out frame looks FABULOUS!! LOVE the cut out dragon with the pearls! Have you read the fable about the 5 Chinese Brothers? I read it to Mila's class when she was in Gr. 2, forgetting that it's really about drowning, murder, torture, the death sentence and dishonesty! ha ha ha! you should have seen the look on Mila's teacher's face ( and I had forgotten about all these gruesome details...big OOPS!) I still LOVE that fable, though :) this is a FAVE!
Beautiful LO and I really like that how you incorperated the fable about Mi Fei. Fantastic embellies. Your dragon is awesome and the lanterns are so pretty.
This is very dramatic! I like the dragon and his colors. I also like the page with the hillside village, it looks like an authentic Asian wood print adding to the page very nicely! Great colors!
Sharon - this totally AWESOME. You've created a wonderful scene that draws the eye to every inch of the lo. the colors and embellies are perfect and your description/journaling is FANTASTIC. I too feel the strong need to read the book now. Thanks so much for sharing.
It sounds like an absolutely amazing story! I am going to have to see if I can get my hands on the book. I love the paper dragon and scene you made on your layout.
I made this layout for the November Dark Side challenge. Celina challenged us to use any fable/story/poem or tale as the basis for our layout. I used the Chinese fairy tale called the Paper Dragon for my layout because Anne loves this story!! Journaling reads: The Paper Dragon tells the story of a humble artist, Mi Fei, who is sent by his villagers to confront a fierce and destructive dragon. “Then through the mist, with a rumbling roar so loud Mi Fei thought his head would burst, the dragon appeared, “hah, who dares to disturb Sui Jen, the source of fire, the heart of the mountain” Mei Fei grumbled. He turned to run away from the terrifying sight. But the worried faces of the villagers filled his mind and Mi Fei turned back to face the dragon.” The dragon informs Mi Fei that “before I return to my ageless slumber, someone must solve three tasks.” If Mi Fei fails, he'll be devoured. For each task, Mi Fei uses his art and the power of love, “the strongest thing in the world . . .” to find the solutions.
