Give a Cheer
I made this page for my great-grandfather. He immigrated from Germany in 1855. Although he was not yet naturalized, in 1862 he enlisted in company "F" of the 73rd regiment in New York to fight in the Civil War. He fought in the Battle of Gettysburg and was taken as a POW on two occasions, but was paroled each time. I attached an article from a local newspaper where a member of his regiment says "he was the bravest man at Gettysburg". I'm sure that's a bit of an exaggeration, nevertheless we are all proud of him. I used a lot of metal to show his strength, but included the butterflies to also show his softer side.
