8.5x11 Genealogy Page

This is my Great-Great Grandfather, Brown Parish. I guess I should have somewhere put his name as Brown as that is what he was called but in the military, you NEVER go by your middle name officially so it was William Brown Parish.

The Front is a hodge-podge. I never really did find a better photo of him and Yes, you did see this before on my Parish notebook cover. He was a farmer and a preacher. His family gave the land that New Hope Church of Christ was built on. My family still has land there and farms.

Page two is a letter he wrote and is not meant to be read here and is difficult to read unless you can zoom on a computer screen. The significance is that he could write it shows his level of education that a justice of the peace or lawyer didn't write it for him and then he just mark it with an "X". The gist is this, it is addressed to the Confederate States of America. There is a lined ledger at the top showing that he was paid $90 and is owed $213. Somehow they dropped him from the rolls after his service and did not complete his pay. I don't know if he received it but likely by the time he did it wasn't worth anything. His signature and transcription is at the bottom.

The Money and the CSA buttons I found on line for embellishment
