How does this machine differ from the GoPress hot foil machine?   By: User (23-Sep-18) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
This question is about a related product.
    • I will write a review this weekend which will include pros and cons for each machine. If you own the GoPress it will work very similar. I own that machine but had trouble. Then I watched videos on both these machines and decided to purchase the Spellbinders machine. Both work very similar. If you already own one or the other and do not want to spend more money, then keep what you have. Basics of machines are on/off, heat time, and cover plate. If I did not own a machine at all and saw them work, I would go with the Spellbinders. There are more involved differences which I will post in my review soon. Hope this helps for now. • Can you use any dies with this system?   By: kittycatinkc (29-Aug-18) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
This question is about a related product.
    • I own this machine, and we can use other dies created for the same purpose. We can also use the back side of regular cut dies for a thicker/wider transferred design, can also use the front of a regular cut die to JUST GET THE CUT LINE AREA transferred with the foil. I spoke with SB with some questions I had a lot of spill over of the foil, I also wanted to know if Couture Creations foils would work. their reply to some of my questions:
      1) Couture creations hot foil does work with Spellbinders Glimmer Machine
      - Ensure that the foil is "thermal foil" this type of foil is ideal
      (We used Spellbinders foil)
      2) You are able to foil on card stock but we do not recommend it because of it's thickness nor do we recommend textured paper
      3) Spellbinders tutorials and videos will be using Neenah Paper of either 80 or 110 lb
      4) Tip: try to get foil around the same size of the plate w/ edges of the foil cut
      5) Big shot machine is compatible but you may have to adjust and readjust the sandwich formula due to the tolerance of the machine

The spill is due to the amount of pressure going through the machine. It may be because you are using card stock. Please stay tuned to our YouTube and blog, we will be releasing tips and tutorials soon. That will give a better visual.

Hope this helps! By: KSONE (04-Sep-18) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

  • What is the difference between this and the original Glimmer?   By: Iluvzpaper (21-Mar-22) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • The 2 has the new style of magnetic lifter. old magnetic lifter works just as well By: Heavensentmom (21-Mar-22) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

    • As far as I can tell it’s a monetary difference. If you look at the box graphics for both the 1 and 2 they both show the new magnetic handle tool. The Glimmer 2 includes a 3rd shim/plate. Since both now have the new handle tool then the approximate $20 difference between 1 and 2 must be the extra plate. Really? Is that it? Anyone else have any ideas as to the difference between them? I like some of these dies. Can I order the die and use it in my Big Shot? No foil, just use it as a regular die?   By: User (20-Feb-19) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
This question is about a related product.
    • These are not dies per se. They are metal stamps. You can use these to emboss or ink up and stamp (running through the die cutting machine) but they will not cut. Only leave an impression. I have a video on my youtube channel showing this in detail. https://www.youtube.com/c/eastwickspaperandink By: Katy Ingram - Eastwicks Paper and Ink (10-Sep-20) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • Unfortunately the reactive transfer foils used with the MINC do not work with this machine. I've had success using the heat foils from Spellbinders, Crafter's Companion, and We R.

This article really helped me understand everything about foil and what works with what machine :D:

This question is about a related product.
    • Technically you can use any thin die. But keep in mind the only part that will foil on a regular die is the raised cutting line. So for example you have a word die, you will only get the word outline. There is no solid fill on any cutting die. By: vsown (01-Jan-19) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • is this the UK/EU system or is this just a new US system?   By: Ilinna (29-Mar-22) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • Thanks. I understand that Spellbinders has decided it’s too expensive to sell their UK/EU model to Australia - websites BLOCK sales! - but if you decide to sell that model, I’m prepared to take my chances. So far I haven’t had any problems with UK/EU electronics after purchasing an appropriate plug converter. US electronics are a bit more dicey though; I bought a US heat tool that died after its second use. My Tim Holtz UK/EU heat tool is still alive and well after a few years though. • Hello!

      Glimmer is compatible with…
      · Spellbinders Platinum, Platinum 6
      · Deep Sea Die Cutting and Embossing Machine
      · Sizzix BigShot
      · Sizzix BigKick
      · Sizzix Big Shot Plus
      · Sizzix Big Shot Express
      · Tim Holtz Vagabond
      · We R Memory Keepers Evolution
      · RG Amaze

Glimmer is not compatible with Cuttlebug or any other machines that can’t cut Steel Rule Dies and does not have at least a 6” wide platform.

If your machine is not on this list, I might suggest contacting Spellbinders (see their contact information below):

    • I believe if you order from outside the US you should get the appropriate plug for the machine. The foil doesn't stick to the plates if you put it on correctly as for ink you can clean with a stamp shammy, baby wipe or microfiber cloth. I am a little confused as to why it can't be use with a Cuttlebug. You can use Steel Rule Dies in it and does have at least a 6" long platform. I cut with some of Tim Holtz's steel rule dies in my Cuttlebug quite often.   By: User (25-Sep-18) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. This question is about a related product.
    • When the manufacturer says it's not compatible, there is a reason for it as they do want as much compatibility across all the machines they can get as it makes their product sellable to a larger segment of crafters. The Cuttlebug might just make it too tight. Build a sandwich using standard Cuttlebug plates and measure the thickness. Build the same sandwich using the Glimmer Hot Foil System plates and see if there is any appreciable difference. My biggest concern is that you might crack that Glimmer plate that heats up and because you used it in a Cuttlebug when they said not to, it won't be under warranty and you are out of luck. I still have my Cuttlebug (since 2005) although I went to a Vagabond 2 years ago due to arthritic fingers. It is still pretty handy for a quick embossing or cutting. • I think it might have to do with width...transfering from foil heater to cutter. If you take it out of foil heater and use the cuttlebug to cut would be ok. By: angelaall (27-Sep-18) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

What is the difference between this machine and the Go, press and foil machine. I have seen tons more demo's with that machine, but liked the set up of this one ie. no guessing if the light that says it's ready is a true read. Can you use the cut and foil dies in this machine?   By: User (29-Oct-18) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
This question is about a related product.
    • As far as I can see and I do not profess to be a professional, if you are using another machine (mine are the CutnBoss or the Evolution Advanced) to accommodate the width of the heating element you need to be able to set the depth of the material to be inserted to accommodate the embossing choice. if there is too much pressure the dies will cut through the material being foiled and it seems to be that a foil design created for a foil effect is rarely subject to the cutting of the die cut (thin lit) dies. Yes, you can use die thin cut type dies but you must be careful when passing the heating element stack through the press to accommodate your desired effect. By: Sreb (31-Oct-18) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

    • I just posted a response to another users question. I will post a review this weekend based on my experiences. But in short term, they are both similar as far as dies and foils you can use. It’s the basics of the machine itself that operate differently. If I had to choose which machine, I would go with Spellbinders. I have both and prefer theirs. I have dies from both, as well as foils from three different companies. All work interchangeabley. By: Furgie (26-Apr-19) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • Hello, I ask again, would like like to order the european version from scrapbook.com, is that possible? And how do i clean the ink from the dies?   By: GreenFroggy (19-Nov-19) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
This question is about a related product.
    • We only have the machine that is compatible for the US/Canada on our site. Also, the Glimmer Plates (like dies) for this machine are not meant to be used with ink. You can see the machine in use at the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3GMQcM4rog By: Scrapbook.com (19-Nov-19) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • I realize this question is old, but I want to clarify for anyone reading. GreenFroggy asked how to clean the ink from the dies. This machine does not use ink, it uses foil, so there is no ink to clean and you would never be in a position where you had to clean ink from the machine or any components.

Secondly, while you can technically use some of your dies to transfer foil, the majority of what will be used are not dies, but rather metal heating plates. These metal heating plates are called hot foil stamps and hot foil plates depending on the manufacturer. By: LunarMonkeyPaper (14-May-22) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you!
