In the pamphlet that come with the machine, it says, of course, to only use Sizzix products. I think the Cuttlebug plates would work. They are just a fraction of an inch thicker, about an inch shorter and about a quarter of an inch narrower than the Sizzix plates. I originally owned a Cuttlebug and then for the last few years I had been using a Fiskars Fuse machine, which was advertised to be able to use any other companies dies. So, I kept using my Cuttlebug sandwich. Eventually, I bought a Sizzix Magnetic base. I used it with my Cuttlebug plates in my Fuse. It worked just fine. When my Cuttlebug plates finally needed replacing, I did buy Sizzix plates to match my magnetic base. When I switched, I did notice that some of the lines left behind by some dies (like the dots where the holes are for poking your paper out of the die) were not as pronounced or even there with the Sizzix plates, since they were a bit thinner, but that was the only difference.
I apologize for the long drawn out explanation. I just wanted you to know how I came to the answer I did. I have only had my Vagabond for a couple of weeks, but I find am die cutting and using my embossing folders more than ever, because I have a problem with my shoulders that made cranking my old machine painful for me to do. Like everyone else who had a different machine before the Vagabond and has written reviews, I feel like I should have bought this a long time ago! Best of luck!
