  • I used the new media scraper tool on my glass mat to remove some glue and now I have scratches in the glass. I thought it wasn't supposed to do that...?   By: Wendie78 (08-May-20) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • Hello Wendie78,

As you know, glass will scratch. However, it is very unlikely that the scraper scratched the glass as it is made of plastic which is softer than the glass. You probably just noticed the scratch while scraping. What you want to avoid is using cutting knifes on the glass as they will scratch it. Use a self-healing mat to cut on. The good news is that these scratches should not effect your crafting. If you have any other questions please let us know.

      Kind regards,

    • Hi I have the same scraper tool and I find I need to be really scrupulous about cleaning is so there aren’t any bits that are stuck on the blade and cause scratches. It would be good if the scraper was non-stick. By: Sallych (09-May-20) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

Can you use alcohol markers on the mat?   By: User (14-Feb-18) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • Yes, because you can clean it by spraying with alcohol and wiping it off. By: wgleason9 (16-Feb-18) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

    • The box it came in states on the front that using alcohol inks on the white non stick mat will cause it to stain. I would just pull it off while using alcohol inks. If it does get stained and it bothers you they will be selling a replacement mat. By: wgleason9 (17-Feb-18) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. • Is the Tonic Glass Media Mat heat resistant? Can you use a heat gun on it for embossing, etc.?   By: veallen6 (10-Feb-18) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • It works perfectly with a heat tool! By: Polka Dot Paper (12-Mar-18) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

    • I use mine when cutting with my heat knife, which I do when I am cling mounting all my wood stamps. An embossing gun is no problem! I store my self-healing mat on my table underneath this new glass mat because the self-healing mat is a little larger as I used to use it in quilting. I love this mat and have already put my alcohol inks to use more in the last week than I have in the last year! And, as Tim recommends, I clean it with hand sanitizer! • Will this be available in Australia? If so, when and from whom please..   By: jomorgan48 (10-Feb-18) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • Hello Jomorgan,
So there is no confusion with the reply that Sherrie has posted, the Tim Holtz brand is licensed by many manufacturers; Advantus, Sizzix and Tonic to name just a few. None of these companies own any part of the Tim Holtz brand. We all make product in different categories that incorporate Tim's input and/or design ideas.

As to availability, Tonic has pushed back the availability of the Glass Media Mat because our China factory could not produce enough product to meet demand before the Chinese New Year. Some factories have already closed and will not return until the end of February. Once production starts up it takes several weeks to fill a container and approximately 4 weeks to get the product to our warehouse. The Media Mat was NEVER a limited "One Time Production". I do not know who is making up these rumors but they are entirely false. If a publication or blog wants to report something about any product they should contact the manufacturer and get the facts directly from them.

As to your question to Australia, Tonic will have distribution in Australia once product is available. As you know, products are more expensive in Australia due to the location. If a single unit is being shipped from the USA, the freight cost are going to be much higher because of the weight and distance it needs to travel. However, we ship containers all over the world which reduces the unit freight cost dramatically. Australia will have product once it is available to ship.

Should you have any other Tonic questions, we welcome you to contact us directly anytime. Our number is +1 (209) 253-0596.

      Sincerely,
      Gary Torres

  • Is there a sleeve available for transporting it to crops?   By: mratzloff (08-Feb-18) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • Tim Holtz said in his video there was no sleeve for the mat as it weighs 6 lbs.He added that if you feel the need to transport it then keep the box that it came in or just put it in your car as you are not going to damage it. I know I wouldn't want to be lugging around a 6 lb. piece of glass. By: majestikdragonfly (09-Feb-18) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. • Does hot glue drippings come off of the glass mat easily? It's terrible when I accidentally drop on my self sealing mat that I like to work on.   By: thepicketyplace (19-Dec-18) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • I find it much easier to remove the hot glue from the glass than the self healing mats. I have both and you are right, it is a bear to get it off. If it sticks more than I like i just use a scraper to remove it. I hope this helps. By: michbyerley (20-Dec-18) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

    • Absolutely! Self healing mats are made of a completely different type of material. The glass media mat is a non porous surface so virtually anything can be removed from it one way or another. Be it by cleaning solutions or a scraper. When I’m using adhesives I like to do so on the silicone mat that is provided. The seemingly impossible just peal right off and it’s quite entertaining to boot! By: kdaniels1229 (05-Feb-19) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • I have read several comments that reference the glass scratching when using this as a cutting mat. Can I use a cutting blade on the glass surface?   By: marsmother (10-Mar-18) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • From watching Tim Holtz demonstrate the mat, I thought it was intended for a cutting surface. Mine got scratches from some cutting tools! So I contacted the company and this was their response.

When using a knife on a glass it will scratch. Different blades are usable on different types of glass some types of glass, that is why we do not advertise it being scratch proof.

    • Introducing new products this time of year is always difficult because of Chinese New Year. This is an extended holiday in China through February and the result is that it limits production and what shipped to us. Once the factories go back to work it will take approximately 3 weeks to product more product and another 4 weeks for it to get to our warehouse. It is good that you have it on order early so you will get your product sooner rather than later. If you have any questions you are more than welcome to call us.

  • Is the non stick mat for the side included? How much pressure can you put on the glass?
If you are stamping on one of those plastic 8ft. long tables (that "give" when you stamp on them and give you partial images) will using this media mat solve that problem?   By: JPALM3746 (09-Feb-18) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • Hello JPalm3746,
The non-stick mat is included. I do not have an actual measurement of how much pressure you can put on the glass, but I have used this item on a plastic folding table and it makes a perfect surface for stamping. You should have no problem when pushing down on a plastic table.

  • I bought this from a small scrapbook traveling store near me. I was super excited because clean up and cutting on my current surface is not always easy and this looked great. Tim says you can cut on the mat glass mat. I have not cut on it, but found it scratches incredibly easy. Q: why is this? Will this be fixed? I like things to be tidy and this will quickly be ruined if I put anything other than "wet" substances on it. I bought this so I could cut on it (as Tim states it is tempered glass, and encourages the purchase of the ruler to cut straight lines) and use the white side for my inks, colors, gels, etc. It works well for the media, but I would not recommend any cutting on it. As it is, I did not use anything obviously sharp and I still got several scratches with the first time I used it! As for the grid,it is really only helpful to me if I can use it to line up things to cut, otherwise, it is just a pretty decoration. It is not at all like the Tonic one with grids for cutting, media, etc. Q: Any tricks for being able to use this surface for more than just laying down media without it ruining the surface with scratches?   By: Polka Dot Paper (10-Mar-18) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • Hello Glass Media Mats will scratch, they won't ruin your mat but it will scratch. If you use a knife on glass it will scratch it, depending on the type of tempered glass determines how much it will show. By: Tonic Studios (17-Apr-18) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • I continue to use the mat as I do like it for media. I just ensure I don’t put anything on it that may potentially scratch it. It is very susceptible to scratches. I am hopeful That Tonic will address this on future models. They are an awesome company that cares about their customers. By: Polka Dot Paper (07-Apr-18) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • I had my Tim Holtz Glass media mat barely a week and I set some thing down on it(very lightly) and it cracked! It has two thin crack lines in it. Is there any way to fix this like you do a car window? I just can't believe it cracked so easily. • I purchased the Glass Media Mat and the Media Tools from Scrapbook.com. The straight edge tool did not line up with the grid of the Media Mat. I wondered if the Media Mat grid was off or if the tool was off. I tried one of my own T-squares, and it did line up with the grid on Media Mat. Scrapbook.com sent me another set of Media Tools. I had the same problem with the straightedge being square with my Media Mat. Did anyone else have this problem?   By: mbh27 (10-Sep-18) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! I know you can use a heat tool or hot glue gun without any issues. We have never tried to iron on it. I certainly would like you to try your technique on the mat and let us know if it works. I would suggest that you DO NOT set the iron down flat with it on when you are not using it as this would heat up that area excessively and it might cause damage.. Should it cause any damage to your glass mat I would gladly replace it for you.

I look forward to seeing the outcome of your project. Please email me directly at - [email protected]

      Regards,
