I'm a klutz and I have cats who like to play with my scrap supplies, so a retractable exacto knife is a must for me. I had tried a couple others and found their blades to be very weak. The EK Success CutterBee has a pretty strong blade, and the blade length is decent. I have problems with my hands, so I especially like the padded grip - it's both thicker and cushier so it's easier for me to hold. The blade storage is great and makes it easy to insert a new blade, and it has a place to but used blades which is great for disposal. I've heard people complain that the button to retract the blade gets in the way, but I find that if I'm careful as to how I put the blade in, it's not a problem.
I knew that I loved this scapel. I got mine about a year ago and loved it the first time I picked it up.
It feels like a pen in your hand and makes intricate cutting so much easier.
The retractable blade is so useful for safety. No lids to fall off or lose.
The only problem is that I use this little cutie all the time and the rubber cap on the thing you push to get the blade has finally fallen off from so much usage.
It still works perfectly but is it time for a new one??
The new design is a little funky. I think that's an old product photo. Can be difficult to move the blade up.
I bought this because I was afraid one of my kids would find my Xyto (sp) knife, which doesn't have a cover. Also, I'm less likely to accidently stab myself because I'm able to retract the blade after I'm done using it. CutterBee also makes it easy to change the blades without the worry of being cut.
The only thing I have had a problem w/ is that little cushion thing that you push w/ your thumb came off, making it a little harder to push the blade out.
Love the idea of a retractable blade and changing blades are a breeze. BUT...after installing first blade, it would not stay in the usable position. Will return and try one more time. Very disappointed. I know people who love this product.
Scrapbook.com replaced the cutter with no questions asked. And this one works PERFECT. Thank you for good customer service.
I received this product as a gift in a swap and I can tell you that I will never use my old knife again! I always thought that it was fine and that there was no need to upgrade to this product, but I was so wrong. This is the perfect cutting tool for trimming paper from chipboard or for freehand cutting titles. So smooth, easy and safe! I'm stocking up on refill blades!
Used in this layout: Some things never change
I have small children and I was always so worried they were going to cut themselves on my scrapbooking tools. With this knife I'm never worried. I love how the blade retracts to keep it clean and safely away from little fingers. It's also an awesome craft knife. Great for small cuts, photos, anything! Great tool to have in your supplies.
THIS IS MY SECOND KNIFE AND I HAVE BEEN SATIFIED WITH THE FIRST ONE. I PURCHASED THIS ONE TO HAVE A SPARE ON HAND.
EXCELLENT QUALITY AND LONG LASTING. THE BLADE REMOVAL IS A WONDERFUL IDEA, NO CUTS AND NO COMPLAINTS WHEN REPLACING BLADES.
I bought the old style when it first came out years ago, and finally wore it out! I love this newer style much better - no button to get in the way on the side of it!
The item I ordered is no longer being produced or is currently unavailable. However, its still pictured on the web site. What was sent can be considered a more reliable knife but I needed the exact knife I ordered because I have specific cutting requirements. The knife I had hoped to purchase is slender at the point where the blade protrudes while the replacement knife has a flared base. That said, when I contacted customer service, they were more than generous. They issued an immediate credit. It was visible on my account the next day. They stated that they would take steps to modify the web site advertisement. Summary....easy web site to prowse and shop at, excellent prices, speedy delivery, and a responsive customer service department. Scary good!!
My mom got this knife for me because my Exacto broke and I will never go back again! It's a great little knife. The blades are long and it is retractable so you won't cut yourself when you're rummaging in your tool case. I am left handed so I have to watch where the button is in my hand, but once I got the hang of it, I haven't accidently retracted the blade since. I also like that it comes with additional blades and a place to store your old blades once you are finished with them. They easily screw out of place on the cutter and into the case with the other blades. My only issue is that the first couple of blades that I put back into the case didn't go down into the case all the way easily so I was fighting for a little bit, but I did get it.
I had another craft knife that swiveled but I loved the cutter bee scissors I had and decided to give this product a try.
I really like that it comes with 5 blades. It is really easy to switch blades. The blades come in a secure holder. You never have to touch the blade even when changing it. The retractable part of the knife is also a nice feature. I feel safe when using this product. I wish it swiveled a little, but it's super sharp and works great.
i love this product because it keeps the blade hidden. Even the replacement blades are secured in the blade holder. The blade stays put when you use it. it is suprisingly light-weight. for the price this is a great product to have.
I hit the button a lot while using the blade causing it to retract while I am using it but that could just operator error. I still prefer to have this knife out vs. traditional for safety when not in use.
So handy! and SAFE! I keep it upright with my sissors, it's so easy to store! I use it for everything-- super sharp :)
Only complaint is push top can get stuck for a second- no biggie
I do love this knife, and I donīt... Iīm on my second one now, the first one only lasted a couple of months. The button for getting the blade broke, so the blade would not come out. I did however get a new one from EK Success, and thats one of the reasons I would recomend this product :-) Itīs also very comfortable to use, and the refill blade holder thingy is a great pluss! (Just be careful not to twist to hard when replacing your blade!)
I used it once and the retractable part won't keep the blade out unless I unscrew it a bit. No long convenient. However, I did love how easy it is to trade out blades, no fingers touch the blades. Nice for kids. It just seems cheap. I would perfer a non-retracable version.
The only reason I am ordering another one, is because I have a bunch of replacement blades. This will be my third. The first one fell apart and the secondone broke at the bottom whenI was replacing the blade. I also find it works well for cutting paper, but when trying to cut something heavier like chipboard, it tends to bend. Give me my fiskars anyday.
