This is such a good papertrimmer I wouldn't change it for anything! I thought my old one was... well... OK. It did it's job, but it was kinda hard to cut and you really had to push down the blade for it to cut properly. This one is SO easy to use. Just slide in the paper under the little plastic strip and cut!
Also, I love the grid on the cuttingboard. You can fit a full 12x12-paper and cut all sorts of sizes with help from the grid. Makes perfect cuts every time with almost no effort needed at all. :) If you're gonna get a new papertrimmer, this one is worth every penny! (And I paid the regular price plus shipping to Sweden plus Swedish taxes which are 25% of the amount, and I still think it's worth every penny!)

I used it today and have to go buy one soon!! I tried this one out and love it. I like the gridlines..so if you want to cut a certain size like..4x6 you can just use the gridelines and cut the perfect size.
it takes a little getting used to..considering it is a little large..and the blade takes a little but of effort to push..but once you use it awhile you get used to it in my opninion. Even though it is larger in size, it is really lightweight and folds in half to take to crops!

It's always seemed to me that one of the tools which crafters rely on for accuracy time after time is the paper trimmer. Finding the one that works best is the equivalent of the Holy Grail. Since I wasn't going to spring for, or wait for, a Genesis, I tried many types of cutters and brands of cutters. Most fell short in one way or another--didn't hold up, cuts became unreliable, markings wore off, blades constantly needed to be replaced.... I heard good reviews about this Making Memories trimmer and now I'm a believer, too.
First of all, this is a sturdy and well-made trimmer, yet it's still portable because it folds and is held firmly shut by a magnet. When opened up, it easily accommodates 12x12 inch paper. It's well marked with lines and measurements that are easy to read from both the top and from the bottom. It comes with a magnetic ruler to help hold paper in place. There's also a plastic guard that helps keep paper from shifting while being cut. The cuts themselves are accurate and reliable. The blade is also self-sharpening.
All in all, this is the best trimmer that I've bought to date. I'd recommend it highly.
This paper trimmer is a sturdy, well built tool that looks like it will last forever. I've had mine for a couple of months and it is outstanding. The trimmer folds out so that you can lay a complete 12x12 piece of paper on it. This allows you to line up the paper on the grid, where it stays put if you use the magnetic ruler that comes with it. The trimmers with the extendable rulers drove me nuts because I could not line up my paper where I wanted it because I could not see the lines on the extended part.
The grid on the trimmer was what sold me on buying it. It is clearly marked in print that is large enough to read!! Even after spending half the night on the message boards here at sb.com.
The only draw back is that it is big and it is heavy. But, I still have my little Fiskars if I want to haul a trimmer to a crop.
I have had this trimmer for over two years now and LOVE it! I found it very easy to learn to use and that was before I was a scrapper that I bought this. I bought it on a whim after my first dog died and really didn't care what it cost or if it would work well. But I am so happy I did purchase this! The self-sharpening blade is FANTASTIC and is the best part of this. I also like that it folds i half so I don't have to open it up most of the time.
My only complaint is that it is hard to cut under 1.5 inches. The safety guard that is there takes up that space. Other than that, no complaints here!
I have been using an old lightweight trimmer for years that couldn't cut a straight line, and I can't believe I waited so long to get the MM trimmer. Wow, what a difference! It cuts straight, every time, no waviness, no crooked cuts! It's even, the magnetic ruler holds the paper perfectly, it is self-sharpening and the grids on the base piece are very helpful. The only downside to this cutter, and it is one I am willingly dealing with, is that you can not see exactly where you are cutting because the blade-housing covers it. You need to rely on measurements to cut, and not do it by eye. No biggie.
I absolutely love this trimmer. I'm used to the rotary blade, and this one is very easy to use. The blade is super sharp and the grids make it a very accurate cutter. I specially like the fact that you can fold it back making it easy to store and take it with my to crops. It includes a magnetic ruler which comes in handy when working with transfers and rub-ons. I use the ruler a lot when working with rubons, that way, my fingers don't put pressure anywhere on the sheet ruining other transfer images.
Before I bought this MM trimmer I was using a light weight travel trimmer.
What an amazing difference. I love that this trimmer has a self sharpening blade, so I will never have to spend money to replace the blade!
The cut is amazing. No frayed edges! Just a nice clean cut.
I love that it has some of the more popular cuts already marked on the trimmer. It is actually really helpful.
This trimmer is a bit large. So it does require a bit of room but I say it is absolutely worth it!!!
Let me just say "WOW". I am very impressed with this trimmer! I had been using a very old, small fiskars trimmer which couldn't cut a straight line at all! I bought this trimmer with a coupon, but it is definitely worth the full price. Cuts straight EVERY time and the marked grid/ruler is an awesome feature!
I can't say enough good things about this trimmer. Granted, I've only had it a week, so I can't speak for its' long term effectiveness, but so far I LOVE it.
I just love this trimmer...I had a big old Guilotine before which was bulky and not to mention not so safe for little fingers! I love this trimmer because it is sturdy and very handy. I love the fact that I can place the metal ruler in the handy storage area when I fold it up. It is so easy to use...you dont even have to hold the paper in place with the handy plastic paper holder which automatically holds the paper in place when you use the trimmer.
I have owned several other paper trimmers and tried others. This one is the easiest to use. It gives you cutting guides for different sizes of paper and photos so you get just the cut you want and straight cuts. The ruler can be used to help you hold the paper on the trimmer or you can use it alone. It folds so that you can store away when you are not using it. I would say that for the money, it is well worth it. You will not want another trimmer!!

This trimmer cuts like butter. Straight, precise and clean lines. The see thru attached ruler makes it easy to see where my paper is at on the cutting area and it presses down, holding the paper in place. Folds in half to fit in my bag. I was afraid the magnets wouldn't be strong enough and it would swing open easily. Not a chance! It's a strong hold and very sturdy. This is by far the best trimmer I have ever owned.
I have had this trimmer for about a year now, and LOVE it!!! I can't emagine ever using another one. I had a trimmer previously that would never cute in a straight line. This MM trimmer cuts straight every time! I LOVE that you don't have to buy replacement blades EVER, since the blades are self sharpening, such a plus for an avid scrapper/cardmaker! I highly recomend this product, it is FABuloUs!!!
My dh bought this for Valentines Day for me and I am very happy with it. I love the grids which make it easy to trim to size. Also it folds in half for easy storage but is not at all flimsy. When opened, the trimmer has a valley which can be used to help create a crease. Open the trimmer, lay the paper flat, and run a ruler or other small item down the valley. There is your crease. I love my trimmer.

I have went through many trimmers and they all seemed to go crazy after awhile. I bought this trimmer after much research cause I was tired of always spending money on a new trimmer. I have to say that this has got to be the best trimmer out there! It has a self sharpening blade and many grid lines to help line up your paper for a even cut. I love this trimmer and am so glad I splurged and got it!

This is the first and last trimmer you'll need. It's very durable, cuts really well, and has a handy magnetic ruler that can be used for all kinds of things. I love the measuring guide, the fact that it folds up, and its sturdiness. I highly recommend this trimmer (especially if you can get it half off with a hobby store coupon like I did.) This is my favorite scrapbooking tool by far!
The best feature on the Making Memories trimmer is that the blade is self sharpening!!! Love that it folds for portable and easy transfer and the quality is just amazing! It cuts with such precision each and every time! BUT you do have to make sure you line up the paper properly when you open the fold!
It's a bit heavy when attempting to take to a crop, but for use at home it's perfect.

I just exchanged a 12x12 Fiskars trimmer for the Making Memories trimmer and I'm really glad I did! The base is sturdy and doesn't slip; the rotary compartment is easy to handle; and the magnetic ruler is REALLY strong. Lining up paper is easy on the bold grid, and when you snap the ruler on, the paper isn't going anywhere. This is a trimmer that's well worth the money.
What a wonderful trimmer! I couldn't scrap without this trimmer. I love that it folds in half so it fits nicely on my table. I love when it is full size you have lines completely across so you can easily line up your paper. Like others have stated the only con is it is bulky (especially for travel) but the benefits definitely outweigh the bulkiness!

I've tried almost every paper cutter under $50. This one is by far the best! It holds the paper firmly in place for the cut. The blade cuts perfectly and accurately. It is self-sharpening so there won't be a need for replacement blades. The measurements are nicely labeled on the cutter. It is a little larger than my old cutter but it does fold nicely.
I checked out a lot of trimmers before buying this one. I really love that it folds out to a 12 x 12 size. When folded I still find it compact and light enough to travel. The ruler really helps me keep the paper perfectly still for precise cuts. The self-sharpening blade is also a plus. Definitely a good buy!
LOVE IT, LOVE IT LOVE IT !!!!! I am left handed and it has always been hard cutting, whether with sissors or a cutter. With this product I have 90 degree corners! It makes project so much easier. It cuts smooth as butter. I can't recommend it enough. It is well worth the money and the space. LOVE IT!!!!!
I needed to buy a new trimmer and I chose this one based on the number of positive reviews and all of the features and I was not disappointed by my purchase! I absolutely love this trimmer and I am so excited to finally have a trimmer that doesn't have blades to replace!!! :-)

JUST PURCHASED THIS TRIMMER AND I LOVE IT! I ALWAYS USED THE LITTLE FISKARS BUT THIS....THIS IS GREAT! IT CUTS NEATLY, IT'S STURDY, AND, AS A BONUS, IT COMES WITH A MAGNETIC RULER. ONE DOWNSIDE: IT'S A LITTLE HEAVY. BUT THAT'S OK. I CAN LIVE WITH THAT!
You know I've only had a plastic 12x12 trimmer from Fiscars until I received this for Christmas!! Boy was I missing out! I love this trimmer! Love the grid lines and the picture sizes on there and love the folding aspect of it. Very nice product!

I love my new trimmer. The quality and percision cutting blade and ease of use is awesome. Would highly recommend purchasing this trimmer. It puts all the old models that I've used in the past, to shame....Connie
I Love this trimmer!!! I have had for almost a year now and have cut thousands of sheets of paper and hundreds of photos and it still cuts like it was day one!
The best feature...no more blade purchases!!!

I love this trimmer and wouldn't trade it for anything! I have recommended it to my friends and they have all bought one! If you don't have this...... you don't know what you're missing!! Get it now!

I LOVE this trimmer!! It is slightly heavier than most, but I like that as it is very sturdy, never needs sharpening, and makes straight, clean cuts. Awesome trimmer - Highly recomend!!
This is by far the best trimmer out there. I LOVE it! Don't let the price scare you off. It is definately worth the money. It always cuts straight and you can cut the tinest sliver.
I have to say I went through several trimmers before I bought this one, including the "slide and press" kind (I believe it was by fiskars) and the guillotine style. With these I struggled to make straight cuts, or the paper wouldn't cut properly.
Then I heard about this trimmer, and using a 50% coupon I had, I purchased it.
I loved it, but the first one I had to return right away because it has a little plastic piece where you slide your paper under (to help you make an accurate measured cut) broke off.
Knock on wood the second one I got (to replace the original that broke) has not broken yet, although the quality of the plastic is very poor, especially since this product retails for $50.
-Generally cuts straight, although you can run into problems sometimes if you aren't careful (due to the fold of the trimmer)
-Folds in half and is light weight, meaning it's easy to store and transport
-Magnetic ruler helps keep paper in place
-Grid makes measuring easy so you cut exactly what you want each time (I also use it as a quick ruler a lot)
-Blade doesn't need to be sharpened or replaced
-Some pieces are poor quality and can break if you aren't careful
-Due to the design, if you're cutting a strip that isn't more than 2" wide, it can be tricky/impossible
-Only cuts straight lines (no designs, if that is important to you; it isn't to me)
-Sometimes will make a crooked cut due fold, but isn't a huge problem.
I wish I had found this trimmer sooner. I love that it folds so I can keep it handy, but it doesn't take a lot of space. I love that I can finally get straight cuts most of the time (instead of rarely).
The only reason I gave it 4/5 instead of the full five stars is I think it is overpriced at the MSRP, especially due to the quality of some of the construction.
My favorite thing about this trimmer is that the blade is self sharpening. I don't need to worry about having replacement blades handy. Also the included magnetic ruler helps keep the paper in place very nicely so that it is easy to ensure a straight cut. My one issue is that cutting strips from thin scraps is not very easily done. There is a guard in the way that prevents this.

It cuts like a dream, better than my Fiskar's which I loved until I got this baby. However it makes a terrible scraping noise as the cutting head runs along the bar. I'll try some WD40 on it and see it that calms it down. Very convenient to fold the cutter. Good quality and good value for the price.
I've been scrapping 4 months and I have gone through 3 trimmers. Until I bought this one, that is. This is undeniably the best trimmer I have EVER used, and I have used professional ones at work. There are several features that I think are wonderful. First of all, it comes with a magnetic ruler (look UNDER the trimmer when you open the box) which is really useful for holding paper in place if it slides around. Secondly, the grid is fantastic. It took me a while to figure out how to use it, but once I did, I can't imagine not using it. It cuts straight every single time, if you use the grid. And thirdly, it folds in two for more space on your table, or for easy portability. I thought it would be heavy, but it's really not that heavy.
The only ISSUE I've had with it, is that it was a bit loud. Frankly, it sounded like a dying walrus, which sent me straight to my friends at sb.com who told me to use just a tinyyyyyyyyyy amount (2 drops) of 3 in 1 oil or WD-40 right in the track that it slides on and rub well with a soft cloth to get the excess oil off (or it will stain your paper). It worked like a charm, and it hasn't been noisy at all since I did that.
My only REAL complaint about this trimmer is that it does NOT come with instructions of any kind. Not on the box, not in a leaflet, and I really think Making Memories needs to put some instructions in there. You-tube has some wonderful tutorials though on how to use it, how to get the blade back on track, etc.
You will not regret buying this trimmer, and I have already caused several of my friends to go out and buy one!!!!!
ETA: a year later, I've gone through 3 of these too :( I love the trimmer,,,,,,but I think it's just a wee bit too easy to break.

I had heard many good things about this trimmer and the selling feature for me was the no-sharpen blade. The blade is great even 2 years later. But. Mine cuts slightly crooked, and is most noticeable on the 12" long cuts. It seems to be the top plastic part where the issue is. I have made do and just make sure the paper is aligned to the grids and I have no problems with straight cuts then. The only trouble is when the cut I need to make doesn't fall on a solid grid line--so then I have to eyeball it a bit. I must have gotten good at that because as far as I can tell, my paper is always cut straight. I suppose I should have called MM, but I just never got around to it. I would have given this product 5 stars otherwise.
I came back to edit my review. The clear plastic piece has broken at the bottom and I'm done with not being able to use the top paper guide like it is meant to be used. I went back to my basic Fiskars trimmer until I find another one...
When I first got this trimmer, I thought it was the best tool ever. Unfortunately after about 6 months of use the gridlines are wearing off & it's difficult to get the paper to line up with the top edge to get a straight cut. It does cut a nice line . . . getting a straight one is tough after several months of use. I'm now considering purchasing yet another trimmer!
I was very impressed when I first purchased this trimmer and recommended it to everyone. Now I am sorry that I did.
The gridlines wore off and the self-sharpening blade no longer cuts smoothly and until I purchase a new trimmer, I have to trim cuts with scissors.
Here is the reply I rec'd from MM when I contacted customer service:

Thank you so much for your email and purchasing a Making Memories Trimmer. We don't have a way to fix or restore the grid lines. We do not warranty our trimmers after 12 months of use due to normal wear and tear, therefore we are unable to replace it for you. We apologize for any inconvenience, and hope you have a nice day.
Let the buyer beware!!! I will NOT be purchasing this trimmer again.
I was soooo happy with my trimmer, up until my blade needed to be replaced. After contacting the company they told me that the blades were 9.99 for two and the shipping was 50.00. I then contacted the company to see if they would be willing to ship another way and she said that NO that system was set-up this way and that was that! I purchased the trimmer from a store approimately 4 years ago and the store has since been closed. I really felt that NO ONE wanted to help me! in the email she said that she was sorry about the cost of the shipping and hoped that I would continue to purchase Making Memories products!! why would I purchase another item when they won't even help me with this!!!
This trimmer would be fantastic if the grids on both halves lined up. Unfortunately, mine doesn't and cutting right angles is a nightmare.
The cutting track has slackened which forces the cut line to bulge away. Whenever I use it, I have to cut again to trim off the bulge.
I'm sure that the misalignment of the grids could have been avoided if it was tested before packaging. I was very disappointed.
I would have thought that MM was a reliable brand.
Basically, this trimmer doesn't do what it is supposed to do.
It's concept is good, but it needs to be able to perform.
I wouldn't recommend this product at all.
At first I loved this product. However, the grid pattern wore off within months of use. Then the plastic guard the blade runs along broke. They do not sell this piece to replace it with and once it's broken the cutter is useless. So, I bought another one last month and guess what just happened...yep, you guessed it the plastic guard on this one just broke! I am going to contact Memory Makers and see how they handle this. For the price of this cutter--this should NOT HAPPEN!
I researched this product long before I decided on it. I am sorry I did now. I went ahead and purchased it and wasn't not pleased at all with the cut and the end of my project. It was a ragged cut and non -professional looking by far. I returned it and got a refund and bought an entirely different brand. Much happier now!
DO NOT BUT THIS TRIMMER! It works initially but let's face it all blades need replacing eventually you cannot but a replacement blade. I wrote the company and they do no offer one for sale. SO your investment of $5o is wasted as soon as your blade goes dull!
Save yourself some grief and buy another one!
