after the first couple of times it quit working. even the sheerest of ribbon doesn't cut. it works on the same principal as an impulse sealer.
It only worked twice and the wire was filled with plastic and it stopped working, it only marks the list but it does not cut any more.
I have cut hundreds of ribbons with the Ribbon Cutter and I do mean hundreds. I was making childhood cancer awareness ribbons to sell as a fundraiser. We bought grosgrain ribbon that would ravel when cut with scissors. The ribbon cutter cut perfect angles and sealed the cut edge; the ribbons were beautiful. We cut over 300 ribbons without a problem. I do advise you read the instructions for the most success.
This product works great on thin ribbon and certain fabric ribbons. It does not work on cotton or thick ribbon. Having that knowledge you will be very happy with the way the Ribbon Cutter performs. Hopefully We R can come up with one to tackle thick and cotton ribbons in the future.
I absolutely love this product! I have used it many times and will continue to do so, but here are a few tips for new users that I learned the hard way.
1. The battery runs out FAST if you leave it on for a long time. You only need to have it on for a moment and then turn it off to make the power lasts. Once it starts having issues with staying hot enough, you know you'll need to change the batteries.
2. On that subject, once you turn it on, it only needs to be on for a few seconds before it heats up. It is a quick starter!
3. You don't need to hold down the button for ages for it to cut. Of course, some ribbons are easier to cut than others, but it is quick.
4. Again, on that note, NOT ALL RIBBONS WILL WORK. I have had no issue with most ribbons, but I did find that seam binding burns (likely because of how delicate it is) and some of the really thick ribbons will never cut. It's best to test on a scrap if you're worried.
If the ribbon that you need it for doesn't cut well, I'd recommend some Fray Check.
It sounds like a lot, but I would recommend this products to anyone and everyone. I don't go anywhere without it.
I used ribbon on all 60 of my Christmas cards. It was great to have this gadget.
This ribbon cutter is so cool and actually works. I would keep it away from children, as it does get very hot. I would probably recommend turning on only as needed, but it again really works and makes a great seal
