I bought this trimmer after seeing a Youtube review for it (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_be8RYb7c0c)
And it delivers. The cuts are so much cleaner than my other trimmers. I wish every store stocked this trimmer. The safety blade does what it's supposed to. It mostly works with light force, but I notice sometimes if I apply too light pressure, it isn't enough to engage the safety feature.
But that doesn't matter because retrimming is so easy. This can slice the smallest bit of paper without jamming or tearing. I love this thing.
I have used sharpie to help identify where the cut line is on the cut pad. The cut pad does move the tiniest fraction of a millimeter. For more precise cutting, I would mark the line then adhere the cut pad to the track. Still beats any other trimmer I have ever used. I cut a lot of paper! :)
I bought this for my Mom. She was impatient tried it once and declared it a dud. So I kept it for me and I like it. Here are my hints. First read emilycohen’s review above. Following her recommendation I used double sided tape to fix the cut pad in place, easily removable with undo so the cut pad can be flipped and rotated. Then take black paper and slice off pieces until you can see a faint black line on the cutting pad. You can emphasize it with permanent market, if you like. I then added another permanent marker line so I could identify a 1/8th inch cut. The 1/4 inch cut is the edge of the cutting pad closest to the narrow section of the tool. Doing this to start with, has made the tool so much easier to use. Needless to say I am not giviing it back to Mom! LOL
I waited to buy a rotary paper trimmer, reading reviews and watching you tube reviews. A vlogger from the UK led me to this model. I love it. It's a decent size, lightweight for portability and cuts like a dream. I purchased extra blades and a mat for future replacement. It's attractive as well and very safe to use!
Very nice paper trimmer, but I didn't get 2 replacement blades with it. It did come with a scoring tool though. As for the trimmer, it operates very smoothly which is why I gave it a 4-star rating. It not coming with the replacement blades has no impact on the quality of the trimmer itself.
I too found this trimmer after seeing a YouTube video. I chose this trimmer because I do not feel comfortable purchasing a guillotine style trimmer. If I did, I'd have purchased the Tim Holtz Guillotine trimmer.
There are things I love about this trimmer and things I wish were a little more intuitive after my first couple uses. I really wish the rulers were located above where you lay the paper down as well as where they are currently located. This may be something I just have to get used to. I wish it wasn't pink. But, that doesn't affect it's functionality. I love how the extra blades store underneath the trimmer.
I recommend purchasing 1) Creative Expressions - Woodware - Replacement Channel Cutting Mat - T-800 and 2) Creative Expressions - Woodware - Twin Pack - Straight Blades, when you buy this trimmer. This way, you will have the replacement supplies on hand when you need them. It's not cost prohibitive if you compare what you would lay out for the Tim Holtz Guillotine trimmer. There's nothing worse than being in the middle of a project and missing a key piece of your favorite tool. But that's me.
There seems to be some confusion as to what comes when you order this trimmer. You are purchasing the trimmer itself. Inside the packaging they have included 2 blades. One is the straight cutting blade and the other a scoring blade. (These are the "2 replacement blades" that are listed in the description). You are not getting a total of four blades.
This trimmer cuts very cleanly, and I feel safe using it. I love it!
I’ve had mine a while now, along with the smaller one. These cut accurately and the blades last a long time. I cut a lot of thick watercolor paper to make small watercolor journals. Sadly, I wasted too much money on the Fiskars ones over the years. I have donated them all. They can’t handle watercolor paper and thick, ink blending cardstock.
The trimmer cuts well & easy to use. I purchased this brand because of the safety of the blade in the box. However, after using it just one day, the lid to the housing box kept coming off. I noticed little cracks in the lid. I emailed the company & I’m waiting to hear back from them. If they replace the lid I would happily give it a higher rating.
Alignment is a little tricky with really fine strips but that may take more practice on my part.
I did not receive the 2 replacement blades - only the 1 blade & 1 scoring blade that came with the trimmer. I received the replacement channels I ordered, so I thought I would be all set for awhile.
This is an excellent product which cuts and scores cleanly. I am extremely happy with it.
I saw a youtube review on this and was surprised that Scrapbook.com carries this. It gives perfect cut, and the rotary trimmer doesn’t give a bumped edge. But what I mostly got this for is the metric ruler which is very difficult to find a good one from US manufacturers. The metric ruler is precise (to the millimeters) and it’s easy to line up to the correct width you want. It also come with a scoring tool which I love as I can now score to millimeters precision. However I’ve accidentally cut my paper using the scoring tool so just want to be careful with the force applied if the paper is thin. However, I will say that the inches precision is not as great and there’s only markings of 1/8. They seem to come with other blade attachments but Scrapbook.com only carry refills for straight blade.
As this Creative Expressions Woodware Craft Fingerguard Paper Trimmer is still very new to me, I wanted to write a quick review of my initial impression of it.
I like that the pull out paper guide/ruler accommodates a little over 16 inches in width, but in length it only accommodates 12.5 inches. It would have been nice if it would be 16" x 16". I don't think there are papers that are 12" x 16" in., since most paper crafters users use 12" x 12". Either way, I like it. I also like the fact that the tracking bar clamps down on the paper holding it in place so it doesn't move while cutting. The only thing is that you need to make sure you have the correct measurement before lowering the tracking bar bec it clamps down on paper and it cannot be move to adjust the paper if it's off. I guess the clamping of the tracking bar replaces the finger guard to hold down the paper as one cuts?
All in all, thus far, I like the trimmer and plan to purchase the other blade cassettes.
