After reading the other review I think that the lack of instructions must be the problem for her. The cutter WILL NOT cut if you simple push the blade to the other end because of the SAFETY FEATURE it has with the blade. To explain, the blade works in the same way some of the rotary cutters for quilters work, in that you have to PUSH DOWN while pushing the blade to the other end. When you lift up the bar with the blade you cannot cut yourself on it, nor can children, unless you are pushing down on the top of the blade housing. There is a swing out ruler to measure up to 16” and the surface of the cutter has a grid to help align smaller pieces of cardstock. Besides the safety, long measuring ruler and capacity for heavy/glitter cardstock, I love the mat that fits under the blade, which can be turned end to end, then turned over, then turned end to end again, giving you 4 uses from the mat, which is unusual from a company that sells replacement mats and blades. Most companies want to sell more mats and blades, so do not give you 4 uses from them. Many cutters have no replaceable mat, the blades cut into plastic and dull quickly, as I learned the hard way. I have spent so much on these items in the past, but no more. There is a ruler at the bottom too, for better lining up, no risk of cutting yourself changing blades, but best of all IT CUTS STRAIGHT, thanks to the sturdy twin rails that the blade runs along. I cannot fault it, even my adult son is in love with the one I got his family for cutting his 5 year old’s laminated A5 school merit certificates to size for the fridge door. I actually gave it to his wife, when he was working away, so he wasn’t shown how to use it. He initially thought the blade was blunt, but since he figured it out, he uses it regularly. He is not a fan of clutter, so he likes how compact and easy to store it is. I agree that it fits easily into a bag for the occasional crops I go to, and because the blade (in a safe housing) is changed WOTHOUT removing the housing, it never gets loose and has never fallen out when picked up or transported, which is not the case with some trimmers I have had in the past. I am sure you all KNOW just what I mean, if you have tried many trimmers in search of “the one”. I have had to add to this review a few times, as I kept thinking of more reasons why I just LOVE it, even the colour of it, which might have been a problem for my son if it had been bright pink.
It refuses to cut ----AT ALL !!!! No instructions came with this cutter!!!!! I'm returning asap !!!!! I tried cutting but it only scores mybf and I took blade out put back in different ways ...no cutting but tried different paper...won't cut!!!!:i got my order yesterday gonna go test all tools out nowdies etc before returning in case something. Else is defective!!!!! Ugh i. Need help!! Lol if anyone owns this and knows the secret to making it cut please reply ASAP thank you!!!

Does the arm lift up?

This is a rotary trimmer. Not a guillotine trimmer. The blade does not lift up.
The description says that this trimmer is 16 inches long. Does it cut 16 inches? or is it a standard 12-inch cutter?
