Lets just say that you do have to have this in order to work your cricut, however it is fantastic. You get 2 mats for great price and I use mine quite a bit. I bought my Cricut in Sept. and on my third mat. I've done alot of Christmas cards, birthday, wedding and shower cards up to this point. Over 80 to be exact so it lasts awhile, not including the other project layouts I've done.
The cricut is an awesome tool to have you can use it for so much more then just scrapbooking!. The cutting mats are a great price and as long as you keep them clean and dust and fiber free they can last quite a while. Another trick is to use scotch tape when the cutting mats are wearing down until you get a chance to buy your next set. LOVE the cricut and all the acessories!
I am madly in love with my Cricut Expression. The tips found here are on point. Cover the mat when not in use. Check the "tips" section on this site for additional info. I use diaper wipes to clean the mat periodically. It seems the really cheap wipes without aloe or lanolin work the best.
You guys are life savers, been to 3 stores & could not find this size cricut mat so thank you for having them also having them at a great price as well.
I heard that it is a good idea to have an extra cutting mat on hand. My Cricut machine came with one, but I am sure that I will wear it out!
Just make sure to take care of them, covering after use and they will last a long time!
Your Cricut comes with one mat, but I seem to chew through these rather quickly so it's good to have some replacements on hand. They are sticky and hold the paper fast that way. the first few cuts seem to be the hardest... it will curl lightweight paper on the first few rounds of a new mat. I try to cut my heavier stuff like Bazzill first if possible to avoid this problem. You will know when they wear out when the paper starts to slide off mid cut. Also, make sure to replace the cello cover each time so avoid fuzzies and fur and the like from sticking to it... voice of experience!!! I ruined an almost new mat with embossing powder and kitty fur.

Well I love my Cricut, but I find that the mats are lacking a little. I know nothing is perfect, but when they're new they are so sticky they curl the paper. When they are old and don't hold the paper well it can jam the machine. Also be careful when setting the depth and pressure of the blade on the Cricut cause you can cut right through the mats. I will say that they are cheap enough to replace. I was able to use one mat to create a whole book just using elements from the Christmas Cheer cartridge counting down 25 days to Christmas

Of course, you need these mats to use the cricut. I like the size of the cricut mats which allow me to cut larger diecuts or many letters and small cuts without having to change the paper as often as other die cut machines I’ve used. I highly recommend you use thick cardstock the first time you use a mat because they are very sticky when they are new and I tore some PP on a new mat. Also make sure to keep your mat clean and keep the plastic on the mat when you aren’t using it to help keep it clean and prolong it’s life.
