That's how I describe my Gypsy to those wanting to know "what is it?" It's like the Design Studio Software only without the computer. I love the car charger - although the battery gives you 4 hours of charge time. It's light and very user friendly and beats taking a book to read when you have time to kill waiting for the kids or traveling in the car. I absolutely love it. One really cool feature is that you can see every single image a cartridge offers - every cartridge that's been made.
The bad thing is - the only instructions included in the box is how to turn it on. You have to go to cricut.com and view the message boards for instructions. You can download a copy of the user manuel but it's like 30 pages to print. Basically, you register your gypsy; download the gypsy sync software, download the trial version of the design studio (if you don't already own it) and using an usb cord (which is not included in the box) and hook your computer up to your cricut to download the latest firmware. You can only link a cartridge to one gypsy but you can still use them on any cricut. If you need to get a replacement Gypsy, return it to provo craft, they can reinsert cartridge codes with your replacement, otherwise you've lost the use of all your cartridges in the replacement gypsy. The message boards are quite helpful. I don't consider myself a "techie" but was able to wade through this fairly easily - which was not the case for many people who bought this gem at the World Launch.
All in all, set up took a bit, (mainly because a gazillion people were all trying to figure it out at once) but I love, love love it now and everyone I show it too (true scrappers) drool!

First..I'm only giving it 3 stars because it STILL is not able to do all the things it was suppose to do when it was released. Now for the review:
It was difficult getting started. But once you get it...WOO-HOO!! I love it!! I can use it while I'm waiting for my dd after school, at my mom's house, or just anywhere!! It's the perfect accessory to my expression!! I use it all the time!!

this is not an easy product to learn so suggest you read alot about it before you decide to buy or not. you need time to practice, time to make mistakes, money to waste paper, and lots and lots of trial and error. IT DOES WORK but you may need to call customer support so be patient.
owned it for about 10 days maybe i a few more weeks I will like it more
This is my new favorite toy! It was a Christmas present from my DH, and within a few hours I was already hooked!
The functions and features are very similar to the Design Studio (DS) software so it takes almost no time to get the hang of everything if you are already familiar with the DS.
It is my constant companion now, I even take it to work to design on my lunch breaks :)

I got a Gypsy for Christmas and I use it ALL the time. I have to change the blade on my Expression MUCH more often now but that's fine with me. It's very user friendly and has made my library of cuts even more versatile! Love being able to shop for other cartridges on the Gypsy, since it shows every cut on every cartridge.

I love my gypsy. Igot it a couple days ago and have been playing ever since. With a little time, it is pretty easy to figure out as it does not come with a manual. the only thing that kept me from giving it all 5 stars is that i have not gone online yet to look at the manual, but i cant find a way to show only fonts i have loaded.i have to scroll through all the fonts or do a search.

I have had my new gyspy for a couple of weeks now and love the new possibilities that it opened up for me for using my Cricut. I love having the ability to weld my titles, to combine images from different cartridges and to pick exactly where I want an image to cut on my paper. This was definitely worth the money spent.

The Easter Bunny (Hubby) brought me my Gypsy and it is cool but it literally came with no instructions other than how to turn it on. After several hours of You Tube and viewing gypsy’s that were not this Gypsy I kind of figured it out.
But once you past all that this is a cool thing to have, it's great for crop nights. It keeps you from bringing out all your cartridges. I love it!

I got this awesome tool as a gift from my sweetie for Christmas. I seriously don't remember how I ever went without it. I love the fact that I can quickly and easily scroll through the cartridges and view what I have with a tap on the screen. It sure beats having to open up packaging time and again, flipping through booklets and getting it all set up once I've decided what I want to cut. It has saved me tons of time. I also love that you can easily cut varies sizes of shapes at the same time without having to cut, adjust the size, and cut again. Like the others have said, it does take time to figure it out because it didn't come with a manual. (how silly is that?!) But once you do a little research on the web, you get the hang of it pretty quickly. It's simple to sync your cartridges, too. I give this 5 stars-easily. I love this little thing!

I wanted one of these for a while, but finally broke down and bought one when ProvoCraft had the promotion for free cart downloads. (Can I just say I adore Smiley Cards?)
There is a learning curve. Watch videos on Youtube and blogs - just search and you'll find tons! I looked at the manual online, but for me the video tutorials were much much easier!
I love that I can design in the car, sitting in a waiting room, or just on the sofa while my hubby is working on the computer! I can save my projects and cut them out when I have time! I also love that I can upload pictures of my favorite projects, sketches, etc. for inspiration wherever I go!
I haven't had any trouble with mine at all! I had one cartridge that wouldn't link, and PC sent me a replacement that worked! Highly recommend the Gypsy!
