    Beatiful Results but...

I am actually finishing up assembling my second project: I gave the one I made last year to my DIL and her mother liked it so much that I'm doing one for her.
    So why three stars?
I've taken one off because this does not come with assembly instructions and there really is a need for them because the parts do need to be put together in a particular order. (I used the Google to find a good step-by-step.)
And I've taken another off because of the difficulty of inserting the parts. You need to have a file handy for the tabs and slots that expand slightly when your project is painted. (You have to paint part of this prior to assembly.)
Once all that is out of the way, it's a pretty easy process and like I said, the resulting project is wonderful.

    Miniaturists will love this product

I belong to a small group of women who make and collect miniatures. In other words, we play with dollhouse things. One of the group saw these at a miniature show and brought the idea back to us. We are excited about decorating and filling this Advent calendar. I got mine first and have separated the parts and started construction. I believe anybody could get a good result with this kit. Who knows? Maybe this will encourage some of our group to add scrapbooking to their activities. We will probably fill the drawers with tiny dollhouse Christmas treasures rather than candy.

    Best Advent Calendar Out There

I decided to purchase this advent calendar because it is a nice size and made of good -- instead of cardboard -- so it will last longer. Kaisercraft has good instructions for assembly and decoration online. Putting the frame together takes quite a bit of time, but it is all worth it in the end. You can do so much with it and I am extremely happy with my purchase.

  • Cute but difficult

This calendar is fun since you can decorate it any way you want. It is a great size and I love the little drawers for candy. However, it was extremely time consuming! Not only did it not come with any instructions, I had to use a saw, dremmel tool, drill, glue, and paint just to get it together to begin decorating. The pegs didn't fit in the slots, so I had to sand them down with the dremmel tool. I had planned to spend about 3-4 hours on this project, and it would up being more like 20 hours over several days. If you are okay with that, then go for it.

    Daughter will love this

My daughter has been wanting one of these for a long time, this year is the year for her to start one for her daughter. This is going to be great for putting little pieces of candy or a small toy into, even notes from santa......

    Adorable!

I've been looking for something like this for several years. I'm so glad I found it! I "adopted" an orphan to support and send gifts to from time to time. Her birthday is late Nov. so I've wanted to send her an Advent calendar. I plan to start this project in August and can hardly wait, but alas, other projects must come first!

    I love this Advent box.

I have bought multiple Advent boxes, just like the one shown, from Scrapbook.com and they are beautiful when you add your personal touch. I plan to order more. This makes a great family gift that can be passed down for generations to come.

  • very fun to make

I saw this in a magazine and decided to do it, I have finally (sigh) done all the sanding and I'm now up to decorating it (the bit we all enjoy) :-) The instructions are very clear and it's a good size. I can't wait to finally finish mine!

Questions & Answers
  • Are the drawers fully assembled Are the drawers made of wood or cardboard   By: jimsallwasser (10-Feb-18) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • The drawers are cardboard and you have to put them together. I found that they weren't all the same size either. Not much of a difference but you have to measure each one first before cutting your designer paper!! By: janesomer (12-Feb-18) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • I already put my box together without first painting it. What problems will I encounter when I paint the assembled box please?   By: Robinx (03-Jan-18) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • Hello. My apologies for taking so long to answer your question. Don't worry! You can paint the advent calendars assembled or not assembled. I have done it both ways. I do prefer the assembled way the best. For me, trying to paint all the pieces one at a time is very time consuming. I do sand the individual pieces sometimes if they are rough on the edges.
Once I have the calendar assembled, I use a 1 inch craft paint brush to paint all the longer sides and the center of the calendar. Then I use about a half inch paint brush to carefully do each of the places where the little boxes go. I always give the calendar two coats, sometimes three, depending how it looks. I use either Deco Art or Crafters paint. It's up to you. I hope this helps By: sherrybooth (22-Jan-18) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. • Can you tell me the size of the drawers?   By: pbellai379 (19-Oct-16) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • Each drawer is 1-1/2" X 1-1/2" (face) x 2" deep, overall size is 13" x 13" x 2" deep. I was able to put 4-5 Hershey kisses in each drawer. Was a big hit! By: Tobytoes (20-Oct-16) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

  • Hi I purchased 6 of your Advent Calendars. I want to have them completed by Thanksgiving so my families can start them Dec. Do you have a video or instruction sheet? I'm not sure where to start. Should I paint or is it better to use just paper? Any ideas would be helpful. I want all of them to be different, so you can see I have my work cut out for me. Thanks in advance, Cheryl   By: cherylhuff (16-Jul-16) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • Hi,
I made 2 of these in 2013 for my grandkids. I didnt paint them. I used scrapbook paper on each little drawer and used one big piece for the middle background. I did another type of kit last year for a new grandson and instead of trying to find numbers i bought a set of small number stamps and stamped the boxes. I used glue stick to glue the paper on. You could personalize the middle of each one in the middle to suit each child. It turned out really cute! Also I bought little fake Christmas trees and put little ornaments in each drawer for them to decorate with. They have their own tree and no candy since the parents dont let them have it. I have at least one picture if there is a way to send it to you. Have fun making them!

  • Hi, I bought one of these ages ago but could not figure out how to decorate the boxes with scrap book paper without it ripping or having to cut each side individually. How did you decorate yours, did anyone use modpodge?   By: slow064 (22-Aug-17) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • Along with the actual calendar, I also purchased Kaisercraft 12 X 12 pad of 48 papers in "Silent Night". Included in those papers are 2 pages that have little individual squares that can fit the front of each drawer (with trimming & fitting). I never thought of using ModPodge, but I like that idea over the papers which would also add a layer of protection. It takes time to cut, fit, and attach each little paper to each little drawer, but I'm making a keepsake so the extra time and attention required for this method are not my top considerations. In the center area, I am using another of the papers as "wallpaper" and am going to use miniatures to create a Christmas scene so it will have depth, etc (think 3-D effect).
