Per Tim Holtz, Distress Oxides are primarily constructed of pigment ink, a type of ink that is opaque and, due to its natural thickness, dries slowly. It is important to note, however, that Distress Oxides are technically a hybrid - containing mostly pigment ink, but also some dye ink too. They also react to water. Distress Archival Ink pads are waterproof, acid-free dye inks featuring the classic Distress color palette in the same fade resistant formula used in Ranger Archival Ink. The easy answer is that archival are permanent and distress oxide inks are water based and water reactive. You can use the Ranger Archival ink Cleaner to clean the Archival ink off of your stamp however, Archival Ink can stain stamps but that doesn't mean that the ink stain will transfer to your next project.
