What is the difference between dye, pigment and hybrid ink?

Dye inks are water-based and literally dye your paper. The ink is soaked up by the paper or cardstock so they tend to dry fast. Pigment inks are made of tiny particles that will sit on top of your paper and will take a longer time to dry. They tend to be brighter, with a denser saturation of color and work well with dark colors of cardstock. They are also great for heat embossing since they stay wet longer. Hybrid inks are the best of the two ink types (dye and pigment) as they have properties of both inks. They also tend to be more translucent in their appearance. Hybrid inks are suitable for all skill levels of crafters due to their compatibility with multiple mediums and surfaces.

What are color families?

The Scrapbook.com Hybrid Inks are designed in color families. Each color family has four individual colors numbered 1 through 4 (1 being the lightest shade in the group and 4 being the darkest shade of the group). Color families are an extremely important aspect of layered stamping because each of the four colors coordinates together to achieve a dimensional, layered look. Every Hybrid Ink Pad has the color family name and the color family number clearly labeled on the lid along with the name of the ink pad and the ink shade. NOTE: The 1 color for some color families is designed to be an incredibly light whisper of a shade for that group.

Tips for use:

  • Hybrid inks have a fast drying time and are not recommended for heat embossing.
  • The ink can potentially stain your stamps - be sure to clean your stamps immediately after each use with hybrid inks.

    Extremely light

I bought this ink for a no-line watercolor pencil project and I am delighted. It is perfect. After I laid down the pencil, the stamped lines were virtually invisible.

Why I choose Fog Hybrid Ink

I've read some discouraging reviews regarding this color, so I thought I would explain why I love this color. I am an artist and by using Fog, and Rainy Day I can stamp an image creating a gray scale. I then go over the image with my colored pencils to give it an awesome effect. It is what I would call creating my own grey scale. If you are not familiar with the technique, just google it. Anyway, I love this color, it saves me time and gives me the perfect effect!!

    Excellent

By far, the lightest grey ink I've ever owned..Have been searching for this shade forever. It's so subtle ..perfect for backgrounds.

    Perfect for background stamping

I am using this for greeting cards to make botanical background stamping with focal flower on top. Perfect!

    So pale and beautiful

I was hoping that this would be a very subtle gray, and I am not disappointed. It is so pale, and perfect for tone-on-tone backgrounds, or for script background stamps. I absolutely love it. It stamps so clearly. My only complaint is that the lid, when fully secured, is a little hard for my small, arthritic hands to open. I wish it was as easy to open as the Catherine Pooler inks. However, I do prefer the more firm pad on this ink than the sponge one on Catherine Pooler. I will definitely be purchasing more of Scrapbook.com inks. Haven't tried blending with it yet.

    Hybrid inks

I’m currently using the grey shades on a project and the gradient shades are perfect. All of this line of inks has been fantastic and I will purchase the rest of the colors as I need different shades for projects

    very, very light

This is much lighter than it looked in the example projects. I'm not sure how I am gong to use it.

These inks work well for me

The color is very subtle and it dries back even lighter. Once it dries its permanent. I don't find myself smudging my projects as often when I use these inks. This color works well with a background stamp that you want to build on.

    INK A DINK

I have not used this yet, but I can only assume it will do just fine for my dry ink pad! I like the GRAYs for rainy day or foggy or night themes to my cards :)

    Foggy night

I have lots of colors of my stamp pads but had no gray. I wanted this for the soft look between white and black. Can't wait to use it.

Questions & Answers
  • Can the Hybrid Inks be used for ink blending? I didnt hear that discussed in the video presentation and its not stated in the description above. This is just a general question and doesnt pertain to the specific color fog.. Also, since its a combination of both pigment and die ink, does it stay wet long enough to use for heat embossing? Above it mentions, not to heat it up, but in the video presentation, it was mentioned to heat set it if using on a glossy cardstock. Im interested in trying these, but just wanted more information. Many thanks for any help.   By: ckforester (24-Jun-20) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!

    • Hello! Yes, these inks can be used for ink blending. We use our Domed Inkblending Tools with these inks. I would not recommend these inks for heat embossing. We do have embossing ink as well!

How do you use this fog ink? I can hardly even see it on the paper.   By: User (08-Dec-19) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!

    • Hello and thank you for your question! The Fog is in a series of 4 coordinating colors. It is the lightest one. It was designed to layer with the other colors in the series to create almost a whisper of the lightest shade in group. I hope this helps!
