What is the difference between dye, pigment and hybrid ink?

Dye inks are water-based and literally dye your paper. The ink is soaked up by the paper or cardstock so they tend to dry fast. Pigment inks are made of tiny particles that will sit on top of your paper and will take a longer time to dry. They tend to be brighter, with a denser saturation of color and work well with dark colors of cardstock. They are also great for heat embossing since they stay wet longer. Hybrid inks are the best of the two ink types (dye and pigment) as they have properties of both inks. They also tend to be more translucent in their appearance. Hybrid inks are suitable for all skill levels of crafters due to their compatibility with multiple mediums and surfaces.

What are color families?

The Scrapbook.com Hybrid Inks are designed in color families. Each color family has four individual colors numbered 1 through 4 (1 being the lightest shade in the group and 4 being the darkest shade of the group). Color families are an extremely important aspect of layered stamping because each of the four colors coordinates together to achieve a dimensional, layered look. Every Hybrid Ink Pad has the color family name and the color family number clearly labeled on the lid along with the name of the ink pad and the ink shade. NOTE: The 1 color for some color families is designed to be an incredibly light whisper of a shade for that group.

Tips for use:

  • Hybrid inks have a fast drying time and are not recommended for heat embossing.
  • The ink can potentially stain your stamps - be sure to clean your stamps immediately after each use with hybrid inks.
  • Reinkers are available to keep your ink pad juicy and ready to create something amazing! You can find the reinker you need right here.

    Beautiful Romantic colors for flowers

So far I've only used these colors for decorating/stamping flowers, but no doubt I'll find other uses as time goes by.

Other than that, I love the fact that these stack so well, but not so much that the only way to open them is to break the seal with a knife or a fingernail. I'd love a redesign with the second iteration of these where the case was 'waisted' at the join, allowing the fingers to angle in from the outside to the join giving some purchase to break the seal and open the ink pad easily - without fumbling and getting covered in ink.

These inks are perfect to decorate over, paint with, and stamp even a fine design with, with crisp results. Hybrid Inks are the best of both worlds.

    Lovely colors!

I am in LOVE with these products! I started with 6 and just ordered 13 more! It has improved my stamping abilities quite a lot too.

The pad is wonderfully juicy! The ink stays where you put it, dries in a reasonable time and is just beautiful! I'm going to keep collecting till I have them all!

  • Beautiful pink!

I am so impressed by these hybrid ink pads! I have a few of their colors and they all stamp perfectly, they can also be used to blend and other techniques! Best of all they will work with Copic markers! They also work on vellum and water color paper , just make sure you heat set for a few seconds! I really liked that they have almost no odor at all so this is nice for those with sensitivities to smells. Another positive on these is the case, they stack nicely on top of each other and the lid and base have grooves so it makes it easy to grab with your fingers and hold ink pad when in use. Really great inks!

    Nice Assortment

This order arrived safely this morning, so I can give the proper review to this rose set.

The colors go well with each other and I noticed that the lighter two colors are a bit more defined than the two darker ones, but still are enough different that they work with the set

The rose colors are so pretty and I'm really glad I got this set. They are a bit cooler in hue and I like that. Hybrid inks are really nice to work with and you can even emboss with them because the dry a little more slowly. A+ for these inks.

    Juicy inks

Beautiful juicy inks. I'm slowly replacing my older inks. I looked a long time for inks I like and I have found these are excellent inks.

    Beautiful Ink!

I only have a couple of the hybrid inks from Scrapbook.com, but they are quickly becoming some of my favorites to work with. I'm able to use them with the domed ink blenders and achieve a smooth finish. The colors are bright and vibrant and the impression I get from stamping is always near perfect. I will definitely be investing in more of these inks in the future!

    A little disappointed

I stamped the Candy Shop Pink ink onto some paper and later that week it had faded to be almost the color of Pink Flamingo. I am wondering now if they all do that. I am holding off on ordering any more because of this issue

Questions & Answers
  • Question for all present owners of the Scrapbook.Com hybrid ink pads.
How are you marking or labeling your pads in order to see the pads colors?
Mine are currently in a Portaink system, but I may buy SBC's new ink pad storage system. Either way, I still would like to be able to see what color they are from the sides.

    • If you store your ink pads upside down, the ink will remain on top of the sponge making your impression rich with ink. You get perfectly even images every time without any dry spots. • Hi! New to this amazing place. Has anyone used the hybrid inks for background work in coloring books? Im looking into the distress inks but came across the hybrids and they piqued my interest. • The white ink only comes in pigment. Ranger makes a white ink. Pigment ink dries slowly and requires embossing powder and heat. By: cstucke4 (07-Dec-19) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

  • Hello. Can it be used with acetate Sheets? Thanks.   By: Camomila (06-Dec-19) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
This question is about a related product.
    • I've used it with embossing powder on HOTP Heat Resistant sheets. You have to clean the acetate with embossing buddy or something similar and then make sure you remove any excess with a swiffer cloth. I make sure my stamp is sitting on the ink pad and the embossing powder that I'm using is sitting open and ready to go.
I do that because the hybrid ink can dry fast and any left over powder from the Buddy bag will absorb the ink and dry it quickly.
I stamp with the ink, and quickly pour the embossing powder over the stamped area. Tap it off and run the heat gun over the acetate. I do mine from underneath so as to not blow off any powder. I do that mostly with glitter or tinsel embossing powder so as to not blow off any shiny bits before the powder has a chance to melt and grab it.
I hope my overblown explanation has helped with your question. By: scramblinrosie (22-Jan-20) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

  • It says good for embossing but down below it isn't recommended for embossing. Which is it?   By: pennymeefong (01-May-19) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!

    • Hybrid Ink is a faster drying ink. It can be embossed if you work quickly but it doesn't stay wet for long periods of time like an embossing ink would. As long as you work quickly, you can emboss with the hybrid inks. I hope that helps. By: Scrapbook.com (02-May-19) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • I answered a similar question above about acetate sheets. I have used it with embossing powder, but you have to be prepared and quick but I have used it on acetate and on Neenah Solar White cardstock.

How I do my embossing powder is, make sure your ink pad is filled properly with ink. A freshly refilled pad worked really well. SInce I do not need to refill my pads as often as I emboss, I put a drop or two of the reinker in the center of the pad and run my stamp over it.
Open your container of powder so it's ready to be poured. mount your image on your block or MISTI. I stamp all of my images in my Mini-MISTI, so I can do a second pass on the image if I need to.
I stamp my image or sentiment onto the card, quickly pour the powder over it, tap it off and heat from underneath. TA DA!
I find it works best with fine and super-fine powders than the chunky, glitter or enamels like Frantastic.

Like I said if you pour as soon as you set your stamp down you should be alright!
In the beginning when I was experimenting with the powders and found the fine and super-fine powders worked best, I also found that I could reink the image as often as I needed and still get the powder to pour.
My husband told me he thought it stuck better because of the extra ink. He's probably right!
I hope this helps. By: scramblinrosie (22-Jan-20) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!
