What is the difference between dye, pigment and hybrid ink?

Dye inks are water-based and literally dye your paper. The ink is soaked up by the paper or cardstock so they tend to dry fast. Pigment inks are made of tiny particles that will sit on top of your paper and will take a longer time to dry. They tend to be brighter, with a denser saturation of color and work well with dark colors of cardstock. They are also great for heat embossing since they stay wet longer. Hybrid inks are the best of the two ink types (dye and pigment) as they have properties of both inks. They also tend to be more translucent in their appearance. Hybrid inks are suitable for all skill levels of crafters due to their compatibility with multiple mediums and surfaces.

What are color families?

The Scrapbook.com Hybrid Inks are designed in color families. Each color family has four individual colors numbered 1 through 4 (1 being the lightest shade in the group and 4 being the darkest shade of the group). Color families are an extremely important aspect of layered stamping because each of the four colors coordinates together to achieve a dimensional, layered look. Every Hybrid Ink Pad has the color family name and the color family number clearly labeled on the lid along with the name of the ink pad and the ink shade. NOTE: The 1 color for some color families is designed to be an incredibly light whisper of a shade for that group.

Tips for use:

  • Hybrid inks have a fast drying time and are not recommended for heat embossing.
  • The ink can potentially stain your stamps - be sure to clean your stamps immediately after each use with hybrid inks.
  • Reinkers are available to keep your ink pad juicy and ready to create something amazing! You can find the reinker you need right here.

    DRY

These ink pads are dry. Good thing I ordered refills it took over 1/2 of a bottle to reink the pads.

I love this group of colours for light skin tones and crustaceans

You're probably thinking I'm a nut case, but honestly, Ballet Slipper and Pink Lemonade are great for highlights and accents around cheekbones and eyes and Carnival Pink and Havana Red are great for decorating Lobster, Shrimp and Crabs, and some coral.
Other than that, I love the fact that these stack so well, but not so much that the only way to open them is to break the seal with a knife or a fingernail (if you're lucky enough to have them). I'd love a redesign with the second iteration of these where the case was 'waisted' at the join, allowing the fingers to angle in from the outside to the join giving some purchase to break the seal and open the ink pad easily.

Theese inks are perfect to decorate over, paint with, and stamp even a fine design with, with crisp results. Hybrid Inks are the best of both worlds.

    Nice colors

Used this for a card or two. Scrapbook.com has nice inks and they are numbered so they work really well with layering stamps. Plus they have a great price point! I will be buying all the color families. No wonder they are always sold out!

    Love this

I'm lovin the way this line of inks is offered! Such as 1 being the lightest and so on. Takes the guess out of which color would be best to blend with each color.
This is my NEW favorite product for SB!!

Questions & Answers
  • I like these however ballet slipper is so light you cant really see it. Is there something wrong with my stamp pad?   By: jennyp3349 (30-Mar-19) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • The lightest color in each of the sets of 4 ink pads is meant to be a light color so you can get a beautiful layered look for flowers, animals, etc. If you like a darker color, you can stamp the image a second time using a Stamp Platform, MISTI, or stamp positioner and it will create a beautiful, darker tone of the same color. You might be happier with the outcome if it is a little darker. By: Scrapbook.com (03-Apr-19) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!
