How to care for machine:
Clean the machine and its accessories with a slightly damp cloth only. Do not use a cleaning product or chemical cleaners on the machine. Canned air may be used to remove dust and debris from small areas of the machine. If your handle requires lubrication, place a small drop of household dish detergent between the white and bronze parts of the handle and rotate the handle to distribute. Alternately, you can remove and immerse the handle into clean water with dish detergent. To prolong the life of the plates, use both sides and remove any scrap materials after cutting.

I found out shortly after buying the Platinum that I cannot buy a 3D embossing plate because it’s been discontinued. It’s a nice machine but I thought I was buying a machine that would cut anything. Had I known that I likely would consider a different machine. I’m a long time Spellbinders user having a raspberry Grand Calibur and now a Teal.
I contacted Spellbinders but they could not tell me a remedy.

I was not happy with this machine,but I thought it would be quite different from the others. I find it to be the same as the dizzies, cuttlebug and others. There is nothing wrong and it operates fine, but to me it was basically the same as the others. I expected it to be quite different and that it would have a WOW factor, but it did not. If you want a new machine that does the same OK..plus it is VERY VERY HEAVY. Returned the one I bought because I just did not meet my expectations.
I have only recently gotten this. It was suppose to be my Christmas present from my husband. But my old Big Shot broke while I was in the middle of a project, so my husband (being the sweetie he is) told me to go ahead and open and use my new Platinum Die Cutting and Embossing Machine.....I love it!!!! Haven't tried to do everything with it yet, but I will and expect great things to result........

I really like that you can cut bigger dies and/or more dies at the same time. However, I would like to see the larger plates to go on top of the base. Not sure if they are made or you sell them separately; haven't done much browsing for this item.
Love my new toy! I have the Grand Calibur and Cuttlebug... this one cuts better than either. I have cut Sue Wilson dies consistentl on the first pass... in the GC it took at least two to get a clean cut! I figured out how to emboss the large embossing folders... a piece of standard cardboard is the perfect width. I do hope they come out with a mat that I can use instead of cardboard :) . My only other issue with this machine is that the cutting plates bow when you use non-spellbinders dies. I also hope they come out with a cutting plate that is made out of the same material as the GC... that thing never bowed! All in all, I am really loving this machine!

I am happy with this machine. However, even though there is a false safety in a no questions asked return policy, beware that you still must pay the postage to return a item which can cost almost more than you paid for it! I ordered two of these machines by mistake- and paid $139.00 each for them. I immediately contacted the company even before I received the second machine when I realized what I had done and they gave me a return number. All was well until I went to UPS and was told the shipping would be 60.00! And now I see a couple short weeks later these machines are on sale for 79.00!
I would recommend buying on Amazon or at a box store where you can return items unopened, still in the box that you order by accident without paying postage- and where you can bring in your receipt to get the sale price when you just purchased an item and it goes on sale before you even use it!

Spellbinders discontinued the 3D Embossing Plate. I have tried unsuccessfully to get an answer from Spellbinders on best sandwich options for use with 3D embossing folders. Does anyone have suggestions on an alternative plate or sandwich options. It is frustrating that this new machine has this listed on their plate guide, says it needs to purchased separately but has been discontinued.

I was equally frustrated by the absence of a plate for 3D embossing. Currently, I use a sandwich that consists of the platform, the embossing folder, and a sturdy piece of cardboard that I found in my stash. The cardboard is 1/8 of an inch thick and I cut it down to fit on the plate. The important thing is to find a piece of cardboard that is hard enough to apply pressure, similar to the cover of a hard bound novel.

Hi, I do not have a motorized die cutting machine. I was concerned that the thickness of the item I would be die cutting may not go through the machine. I would check to make sure the motor is large enough to accommodate any thickness (within reason). I just love the large Platinum die cutting machine I have. It is manually operated. Sara

I own the Sizzix Big, and have been learning the hard way that the machine requires so many different cutting mats, crease mats, extension mats......... for every different kind of die.
Yes, it will take you to the bank as you are still required to purchase separately certain mats, plates etc. Let's be honest and say it as it is, have you yet met the manufacturer that provides everything is needed for you to fully enjoy a craft tool? They all have their own marketing scheme to further create the need to continue purchasing parts related to that specific tool until you finally have everything you need to fully enjoy your new "toy". If you have already purchased everything you need for your sizzix machine, just stick to it.

When I bought my Gemini it came with all the mats available, everything I needed. It works like a dream all the time but occasionally, I have trouble with 3d embossing and have to try many different sandwiches. I was considering the spellbinders manual machine for this reason, but now I hear they have discontinued the plate that makes 3d embossing possible! Does anyone know which machine is easiest/best for full sized 3d embossing? Thanks!

Do you plan on releasing an electronic version of this machine? I love the larger base plate but have too much trouble with crank machines do to arm health issues. Since you retired the Grand Calibur and Dies, will you be launching any new larger dies for the Platinum? They were beautiful and I'm very disappointed that I can no longer get them.

According to Spellbinders if your Platinum came/comes with the standard cutting plates, if you contact them with proof of purchase they will send you the XL cutting plates only. The XL embossing plate and mat are an additional purchase as Spellbinders no longer manufactures or sells the Grand size dies.
