Instructions: To use the Sizzix Big Shot with a steel rule die, place the die between a pair of cutting pads with the paper face down over the part of the die design you would like to cut. If needed, use washi or masking tape to secure the paper in place to get perfect placement of your paper. Set the die and pad “sandwich” on the cutting path of the Big Shot machine, and turn the crank to move it through the machine.

To use the Sizzix Big Shot machine with a thin metal die, you'll need an accessory platform such as the Sizzix Magnetic Platform - or the Sizzix Multipurpose Platform, included with this product, as well as a set of cutting pads, also included. To create your die cutting “sandwich”, begin by placing the platform on the bottom. On top of the platform, place the first cutting pad. Then place your paper right side up on top of the cutting pad. Place the thin metal die on top of the paper, with the cutting edge down (in contact with the paper). Finish the sandwich by placing the second cutting pad on top. Set the die and pad “sandwich” on the cutting path of the Big Shot machine, and turn the crank to move it through the machine.

For easy reference of how to assemble “sandwiches” with these cutting pads for other types of dies and Sizzix accessories, use the Sizzix Sandwich Booklet

TIP: The Sizzix Big Shot machine’s polycarbonate plastic cutting pads often make loud creaking, cracking and snapping noises while being cranked through the machine that can sound alarming. Do not panic if your machine makes these noises while cutting! This is a normal part of machine operation and the cutting pads and machine are designed to withstand the pressures of cutting.

Big Shot vs Big Kick: What is the difference between the Big Shot and the BigKick? The Big Shot is essentially the same as the Sizzix BigKick but was released to limited stores. The mechanism and hardware and functionality are all identical except that the BigKick has a hinged handle which some customers complain can come loose or break over time. The only other difference is that the BigKick comes in a different color and was released to limited stores. The Big Shot has become the de facto die cutting machine.

    LOVE the Big Shot!

I love this product!! It is fun, so easy to use, and provides you with the die cuts you want, period. If you are a multi-crafter (you sew, knit, paint, scrap, whatever), you may not be looking to spend hundreds on an electronic machine. If you are concerned that you would not use the electronic machines enough to make it worth the investment (as I was), this is the machine for you!! It uses die cuts from all of the major manual platforms (I love the Cuttlebug embossing folders! Worked like a charm!), and the accessories are very reasonably priced. It is extremely stable--heavy enough to stay put on your table while using, but is not too heavy to take with you to crops. I would not hesitate to recommend this product to anyone!

    LOve LOve LOve it!!

I researched die cut machines & pretty much had my mind made up to get one that needed to be hooked to PC. After much thought I realized that i did not want be on the PC while doing my scrapbooking, I would end up checking email ! So I started checking the machines that took all dies & decided on the BIG SHOT. I am so happy I did.
It is soooo easy to use. Basic directions & no cords!!! It went from box to layout in just a matter of minutes. By using the MULTIPURPOSE PLATFORM you can also cut thinner dies.
The roller is so easy... not hard to turn. The machine has enough weight that it does not wiggle when cutting, yet is light enough that it is very portable.
I highly reccommend this! Plus I love the colors :)

    Great product

I admit, I bought this because the new design was just too cute to pass up. :-) I have used a Cuttle Bug for several years and been happy with it, but decided to treat myself to a Big Shot. I'm so glad I did! It takes up more room on my desk than the Cuttle Bug but it seems like dies and folders just glide through whereas with the Cuttlebug. I had to hold it in place (suction cups no longer work) and really work the crank to get some dies to go through! I also can use an extra thin die I've had for awhile but could never get it to work with my CB, as well as the thick Sizzix dies and over sized ones too. Very happy with my purchase!

    Fantastic!

I received my Big Shot early in March and have used it to emboss only. i will soon be cutting some wafer-thin dies. I have to say that this is the best manual embossing machine I have ever used! I leave it sitting out on my table and it is so stable and heavy that the embossing folders just roll right through with no wiggle and very little effort on my part. I will be doing a lot more embossing and die cutting with this machine. The convenience of having it right on hand and always ready to go is a real treat for me. I am less likely to use a product if it is a big production to get it down off the shelf, open it up, hang on to it while I roll folders or dies through, etc, Access is really important. I love my Big Shot!

    Great all around machine!!!

I was not a fan of roller machines but decided to try this one out. I love it! It is a great all around machine........I can use all the dies from my other sizzix machine plus the dies too big for my old machines. I love the texture plates and the Multipurpose platform is great for incorporating other dies like the flat ones. The other great thing about this machine is the weight. It is sooo light and the handle on top makes it easy to carry from room to room. I don't know why I did not try this out sooner!

  • I just got a big shot. It came with 2 cutting pads and a die. What all do I need to cut wafer thin dies and use embossing folders?   By: Sakers2 (31-Dec-15) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • In addition to 2 cutting pads, the machine should also include a multi-purpose platform. The platform tells you how many parts of it should be open for different types of dies. I cut wafer thin dies with the platform completely closed. I think that I have to open the top "leaf" for embossing folders. Enjoy your big shot - I've gotten a lot of use from mine! • An Anonymous User
I am just getting into card making and am at the scissors and stickers stage I want to move on and am considering the Big Shot. It appears to be reasonably easy to use. Is it? Also, I would appreciate advice on which dies would be the most useful to purchase first.   By: User (17-Feb-17) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • I love my Big Shot. It is really easy to use and makes perfect cuts every time. I always look for "stamp and die" sets because of the versatility. I would also recommend layering sets so you can produce a layered look using a particular shape. By: cindybrophy (20-Feb-17) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • Will this cut felt? I'm looking for something affordable (that isn't scissors!) to use for my felt craft projects   By: LATL (12-Jan-17) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • You can definitely run felt through this machine and it will cut as long as the dies you are using are made to cut this material. It's also important to remember to use the appropriate sandwich when cutting materials in the Big Shot. Thanks! By: Joanie R (13-Jan-17) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • I have 2 questions... I currently have a Cuttlebug but have found it doesn't like certain brands of dies. Does the Big Shot machines accept most dies from various brands? Also, my second question... What are the differences in the various Big Shot Machines??   By: multiplicitycrafts (29-Dec-16) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • I have several brands of dies and haven't found one yet that doesn't work in the Bog Shot. I don't know the differences between the different machines...sorry! By: garydeb721 (30-Dec-16) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

    • The differences between the two machines are the Big Shot has a 6" platform while the Big Shot Plus has a 9" platform. I am speaking of the width of the platform, so the bigger machine can accommodate bigger dies and provides for cutting area so you don't have to cut your paper down to a six inch width. I hope this helps. Thanks for your question! By: Joanie R (30-Dec-16) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!
