What Materials Can the Big Shot Pro Machine Cut Through?

  • Paper
  • Foam/Matboard
  • Fabric
  • Felt
  • Thin Craft Metals
  • Balsawood
  • Chipboard
  • Corrugated Cardboard
  • Cork
  • Leather

How to use the Sizzix Big Shot Pro Machine:

  1. Place a die onto an appropriately sized Cutting Pad. Place paper or desired material to be cut on top of the die. Place another appropriately sized Cutting Pad on top of the paper or material to create a “sandwich”.
  2. Place sandwich on top of the Adapter Pad in the Sliding Tray.
  3. Push Sliding Tray into the opening of the Big Shot Pro Machine. Keep hands away from roller and dies while in use.
  4. Note the rotation of the Crank Handle and continue to rotate it in the same direction until the sandwich has passed through the opening of the rollers. Dies can be passed through the rollers in either direction, from the right or from the left.
  5. Remove the sandwich from the Big Shot Pro. Your die cut shapes are ready to use!

How to use with Framelits and Wafer-Thin Dies:

  1. Place material to be cut on top of a Cutting Pad. Align die on top of material as desired. Place Cutting Pad on top of die to create a “sandwich”.
  2. Place sandwich on Big Shot Pro Solo Platform, Solo Shim and Solo Thin-Die Adapter (all sold separately) and place on top of the Adapter Pad in the Sliding Tray.
  3. Follow bullet points 3 through 5 in the “How to Use the Sizzix Big Shot Pro Machine” section to complete.

How to use with Embossing Folders, Embosslits or DecoEmboss Dies:

  1. With Simple Impressions Embossing Folder, Textured Impressions Embossing Folder or Embosslits or DecoEmboss Die open, insert paper, foil or other embossable material, then close like a book.
  2. Place Standard Cutting Pads above and below the closed Folder to create a “sandwich.”
  3. Place sandwich on Big Shot Pro Solo Platform and Solo Shim (sold separately) and place on top of the Adapter Pad in the Sliding Tray.
  4. Follow bullet points 3 through 5 in the “How to Use the Sizzix Big Shot Pro Machine” section to complete.

How to care for the Sizzix Big Shot Pro Machine:
Over time and due to normal use, the machine will become dirty or dusty. This will happen primarily in the Storage-Well underneath the Sliding Tray. To clean, use only isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) poured onto a clean paper towel and rub over Storage Well until it evaporates. With another clean dry paper towel, wipe off any residue. NEVER use bleach or abrasive cleaners on the machine. The machine DOES NOT need to be oiled or lubricated.

Tips:

  • Always place and operate this machine on a clean, flat, sturdy, non-skid surface. Do not allow any part of the machine to overhang the edges of your work area.
  • When cutting fabrics, using a higher quality material with a tighter weave will help avoid fraying and provide the best results.
  • Use of Premium Crease Pad is required with Crease-Rule dies.
  • Use only one sheet of material with Crease-Rule dies
  • It is important to use the Die Pick (included with the Big Shot Pro) to clean out the bits of paper and other material that build up in the joints of the dies (where the cutting rule meets). If dies are not kept clean, the scraps will eventually push the rule slightly apart.
  • Do not overload the machine.

Sizzix Big Shot Pro Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: If I purchase the Sizzix Big Shot Pro with extended accessories, what die would I need to purchase in order to cut 2" strips?
A: Purchase the Bigz Die Strip 2” wide. However, keep in mind that if you’re looking for the finished product to be 2” wide you’ll need strip die that’s 2 ½”.

Q: What is the difference in the Big Shot Pro and Big Shot Plus?
A: Big Shot Pro has a much larger platform - 13.5” compared to 9” for the Plus. It handles larger dies and is especially helpful for quilters as it will handle 8 layers of fabric.

Additional Information:

The Big Shot Pro Extended Adapter Pad allows all of your Sizzix steel-rule dies to be compatible with the Big Shot Pro Machines (additional platforms or adapters may be required to create the sandwich). Any shape-cutting or embossing product that is thinner than a Bigz die will require that Big Shot Pro Solo Platform Shim and Wafer-thin Die Adapter, which is sold separately.

Warranty:

This product comes with a three-year limited warranty. Visit sizzix.com/warranties or ellisoneducation.com/warranties for details.

Here’s what customers are saying about the Sizzix Big Shot Pro Machine with Extended Accessories:

“I have wanted some of the bigger dies that require the pro cutter so it was my Christmas present to myself. It is great. The machine is very excellently constructed and will be much loved and used. I have also purchased some of the big flower dies and they cut wonderfully with the pro!” - Marilynn Dondero-Rich

“I love the Big Shot Pro and I got it to use an AccuCut die that was about 10 inches wide. It turned out to be too thick for the Big Shot Pro but I was able to find a thinner plastic piece and run the die on the base tray without the instruction board that sits inside the tray. I am very happy I got this die to run through the Big Shot Pro.” – heart1joy

“A most excellent machine. Makes cutting quilt fabric a breeze. I would recommend it to everyone. This store is amazingly fast with their deliveries!” - f0gwoman

I was disappointed that I need to purchase additional pads to use the machine. I feel for the price it should have provided the necessary pads to use all of my die cuts and embossing folders.

  • Not Complete

Purchase of the Big Shot Pro was a long thought out decision. Product is excellent.

Very disappointed that there is NO information on All the extra accessories that are needed with this Product. Would have been nice to a list that includes everything needed.

Would like to revisit to raise the rating given after I receive the extra accessories and use.

    Love it

I love this machine, just wonder if it will be durable. The rubber edge is wearing off already. And since I bought the 4.5 strip cutter along with 2.5 it already needs new cutting mats. At $40.00 its a cost that i didnt count on so soon. The directions are lacking. But I still love the strips that come out of it. Made huge quilt and only need a few strips to bind.

    Sizzix Big Shot Pro

This product is not what I expected. It would have helped to have a more complete description and dimensions. I only kept it to avoid having to pay shipping to return it for the standard version. Not satisfied at all.

    sizzix big shot pro

    Love the product.
I am a quilter. The big shot pro has made it so easy to cut many fabric pieces at one time. That allows me to spend more time sewing, rather than cutting every piece by hand.
It was easy to set up and easy to start using, right out of the box.
    I would recommend this product.

  • Not too happy

Little do they tell you that you have to buy more things to actually use it! Very frustrating. Right now it's a big paper weight until I buy more shim and adapters for this Big Shot Pro. It should be called Big Shot in the pocket book!

Questions & Answers
  • so I have "acquired" larger than Big shot dies (I ordered them, not realizing...but still "need" them!) so. The Pro vs Pro extended, can you use the larger dies on either? the extended looks much smaller as machine, but is depth correct for the bigger dies? Some are thicker than others, just ordered Tim Holtz houses & not sure if thick or thin die? dies for quilting is ok on either I'm thinking. I also am assuming that extended is just bigger space. ? thanks   By: Xmasdebbie (22-May-18) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • The pro extended comes with standard platform, but extended plates and tray....i think the houses can fit the standard....whether Bigz die or framelits. Unless you have the xl bigz, then get the Pro extended. By: nathbonita (25-May-18) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

I own a lot of Tattered Lace dies, some of them are A4 size, to make stepper cards. Will this work or will the Sixxix big shot plus be better. I have issues with my hand and would like to know which of those two machines are easier. I only use card stock. Thanks   By: User (04-Aug-17) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • I know this question is old, but thought I would respond; Although I’m afraid my help will be limited. I have both machines, and love each one. I tend to use my plus machine for anything that fits through it where I can use my magnetic platform or any steel die that fits. However the Pro machine is easier to turn the handle on. ( Just my opinion) I believe because the machine is much heavier and takes less effort because it’s more stable. If you have the budget for just one machine and room for just one machine, get the Pro. It is a much larger machine and requires a dedicated space to keep it. The Plus machine is just like the regular size, and yet it has a wider area. Some of the envelope dies such as tattered lace work better with the Pro machine. If you think you will ever want the larger size dies, go with the pro. I use that for larger projects and for the dies for boxes and envelopes. I do have stepper dies that do fit into the plus machine, but you cannot angle them. I started with the plus, then bought the pro. I’m keeping both, as the plates are interchangeable and I like the Pro for the larger steel dies. Depends on your budget and space. The pro, again, is much larger and heavier. • If I'm not a quilter, should I even bother with buying the big shot pro and just buy another big shot plus? The reason I would buy the big shot plus again is because it's a wonderful machine except my old machine broke a few days ago? I would love to have a speedy reply if possibly since this sale on Sizzix will be ending soon. Thank you in advance for your help and your time. 😊   By: Scrapbkr78 (21-Jun-17) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • The Pro enables you to use larger dies for boxes and envelopes. You can use Accucut dies that are for everything but the giant size. I have both the Pro and the Plus. I use both daily. The Plus for everyday type of card making. The Pro for envelopes and boxes and and large size backgrounds or flowers. The Pro is not just for quilters, it’s for crafts as well. But if you only plan to make cards, then get the Plus By: Furgie (03-Apr-18) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

    • If you don't now and don't plan in the future to use it for anything other than cards, go with the plus. If you want to make larger things (boxes, quilt pieces, or use thicker materials, go for the pro. It all depends on how you will use it. I have a big shot I use for small stuff and the pro for the bigger, thicker items. By: Imacard (22-Jun-17) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. • I want to know what is the difference betwen this machine big shot pro extended and the big shot pro not extended? Can I buy the big shot pro regular, and later get the extended accesories? or not. If I buy any of this machines it will apply the taxes?   By: rocioperez-66 (27-Jul-16) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • I think you are better off to buy the extended version if you intend to use any of the quilting die, especially the XL ones...you can use all the small die on the extended machine but the standard machine cannot accomodate the extended die. New die come out all the time; For the small difference in price of the units you get a lot more capacity for creative growth. By: Sharonchandle (30-Jul-16) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • I just received the Big Shot Pro with extended accessories yesterday. Have not used it yet. Because I want to use this with quilting dies, is the reason I ordered the extended accessories. The machine is also available with standard accessories only. Then you can purchase the extended in the future as per Scrapbook.com website. No tax was charged to my order because of where I live. I did a price comparison and found that to buy the machine with extended accessories was a better buy than to purchase the standard set and order extended accessories. I have been contemplating this purchase for 3 years. I have had the Big Shot for more than 3 years. By: cityquilter2001 (29-Jul-16) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • What is the difference in the Big Shot Pro and Big Shot Plus?   By: lriegel (02-Nov-16) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • The Pro is great if you want to make envelopes and boxes and large size craft projects. You can use Accucut dies in this for everything except their giant dies. It is much heavier than the Plus machine and requires a dedicated space to keep it. You do not move or carry it around. You can use any brand die with this machine, including Spellbinders and Sizzix. The main difference is that the Pro is heavy and stays in place, and you can get dies for large envelopes and boxes, etc... The Plus or lighter weight and you can pick it up and move it around. It handles most dies. Just not Accucut dies or larger size projects. Both are great machines, I have both. By: Furgie (03-Apr-18) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you!
