You are going to love the detail on this Retro Oven die set designed by Tim Holtz for Sizzix. This set of 12 Thinlits Dies is part of the Christmas Collection. This set includes all the parts of the Retro Oven and some fun Christmas cookie shapes to put in the oven window to make it a shaker card. These Thinlits dies are wafer-thin, chemically etched dies that are designed to cut, emboss, or stencil. These dies are designed to be used with one sheet of cardstock, paper, metallic foil, or vellum at a time. This die is compatible with leading die cutting machines (sold separately). This die is going to make such cute cards and other Christmas themed projects, or it could be used any time of the year in different colors and different shapes in the window of the oven to make shaker cards.
This die set was perfect for Thanksgiving cards! The pieces are so tiny/detailed! Dies cut perfectly on first pass. So, the product, itself, is flawless in conception, and use. However, to make many of them was tedious (took me 3 days to make 8 complete units), and so many tiny parts are easily lost AND difficult to apply. If you are making several, as I did, I strongly suggest using project (storage) folders and small bags to hold tiny components, for each; and cut a few extras of the tiniest bits.
I love retro dies and this one makes a great shaker card. As most Tim Holtz /Sizzix dies, this cuts a clean, crisp image. The "cookie" dies included, stars, hearts, Christmas trees and gingerbread men are so cute; a nice bonus! I found the stove-top to be a little tricky with fitting in the thin-cut strips. At first I didn't always get those strips glued on straight but now I use a ruler and problem solved! Because this die can be used all year long, it's not limited to a certain season, it's a good value and a great addition to my collection.
I have not yet used this die, but have begun preliminary plans for a 3D holiday card using this as suggested by some of Tim's artists. As with all of his dies, this set is sturdy, very usable and I am anxious to try it. The sizzix rounded square shaker domes do fit the opening exactly.

This Retro Oven is perfect for holiday cards or tags. The oven is a nice size, and the pieces aren’t hard to place. Also included are the cute cookie shaped dies.
